That was the same actor who played Waingro

JTE Movie Thinks!

You guys (Jeff, Devindra) gotta stop yelling.

Cece

This is one of the best After Darks 😂

Tyler Sexton

Not just loving. FAVOURITE of the year.

Mountain of Conflict

I call bullshit.

Mountain of Conflict

Gotta relisten!

Mountain of Conflict

As a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick, I will always defend the benefits of quality adaptation, as every single Kubrick film began as an adaptation of someone else's literary work. It's different, of course, if some studio committee has tons of shitty notes. But I think it's dismissive of filmmakers to act like "who are they to touch someone else's work?" Sometimes they're better artists than the person who's work they're adapting, and it should be an honor for those authors.

Stranger2Reality

It’s time for another edition of… The Prestige Filmcast 🎩

Michael Prescesky

Due to the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka's death, is there any chance you'll discuss Orsen Wells' Le procès (1962)?

Marc Sontowski

I started to reply that A Beautiful Mind is a pretty great movie, but then I looked to see what else was nominated that year and... this movie beat out The Fellowship of the Ring?!?!?!? WHAT. THE. F -

Kai Ellis

That was in the top 20 hilarious Filmcast moments ever!!!

Kai Ellis

My favorite reaction to Jeff thinking one of his cohosts has lost his mind predates his Filmcast days. Go find the TRS episode where Dan Trachtenburg starts giving a good review of 2012. You can actually watch Jeff break inside.

Joshua Johnson

I’m with Dave, Eternals Hive rise!

Rob

Are we really letting Dave off the hook for loving War Horse?

Brett VanWagoner

Dave I think that was actually the actor who played Waingro. One of the recent Jeff takedowns I have enjoyed is when Devindra was saying he liked one of the Star Wars shows (Obi-Wan I think?) only for Jeff to completely eviscerate it and all that is wrong with recent Star Wars output. So perfect. Honestly my most favorite episode of recent times is the After Dark discussion on the Rotten Tomatoes article. If ever I was in trouble, I’d want Jeff arguing my side.

Garry L

His new puns and references are becoming worse lol

Cardassian Vexillology

I don't watch nearly as much TV or movies anymore, so often I get much, much more out the After Dark discussions than the main episodes. Please don't ever stop doing these.

Kai Ellis

Yeah often the silence for me is PART of the joke. The non reaction from Dave and Devindra is deliberate and part of the joke and just makes me laugh harder :)

Kai Ellis

Count me in the small club of folks who love that movie. And it's not even just a good sit. I LOVE the movie. And that monologue the dude gives about the price of grief kills me every time. "A man would give entire nations to lift grief off his heart. And yet, you cannot buy anything with grief, because grief is worthless."

Kai Ellis

Totally agree! And I just LOVE how over time they've played more and more off Jeff making a "bad joke" and Dave's reaction getting to it getting more and more exaggerated. Same with Jeff explaining to new guests that Dave forces him to do the limericks. I laugh harder every time!!!

Kai Ellis

“Jeff, one of the most merciful things you’ve ever done for this podcast is not watch Green Book.” 🤣🤣🤣 I narrowly avoided a spit take

David

On the topic of Jeff’s jokes, one thing about them that as a long-time listener I have noticed changing is Dave’s reaction to them. I remember years ago there would be jokes or little improv-esque ad libs that Jeff would toss into a conversation only to have it sail over Dave’s head leaving him confused or indignant and forcing Jeff to be like “it was a joke”. But over the years Dave has become better and better on picking up on these jokes and giving them his best “yes and” and I feel he’s even become funnier himself and better at being the first to toss a joke in. Dave please don’t take this as a diss on past Dave, I mean this purely as a praise for your present self and your growth (at least as I’ve perceived it).

Chris Cameron

Hey where’s the guy who was arguing with me in these comments a couple months ago that Walter Chaw convinced Jeff that Coda was a bad movie?

Mark P

Wanna know the funny thing about that GRRM quote? I know one of his ghost writers for his unfinished Winds of Winter and the rest of the unfinished works. He literally hired a bunch of tv writers to help finish his own books and this was before the show finished. He never bothered to do any work on the books himself, just read everyone else’s ideas and then disbanded the group after a couple years of not writing anything himself and the show completing the series finale.

John Terranova

This is a great episode.

Brian Priestley

Yeah, it's not even the worst Russell Crowe movie to win Best Picture, as that was the following year with A Beautiful Mind. People shouldn't get too hung up on the Oscars though, if you go back and look year after year at what gets nominated, a lot of the choices are real head scratchers. The Academy pretty clearly doesn't have the greatest taste in films.

Stranger2Reality

I feel like I'm one of the few people who genuinely enjoys that movie. It's not among Ridley Scott's best, by any means, but I kinda like how nihilistic and bleak it is. Also, I really like a few of the performances in it, namely Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem (shout-out to Rosie Perez and Ruben Blades, for the little amount of screen time they get). Maybe the movie doesn't hold together that great and instead is almost more like a series of vignettes, but I still like it, even though I absolutely know it's not the kind of movie I'd just recommend to anyone.

Stranger2Reality

One of the funniest arguments/dismantlings of a film in Film Cast history has to be when you all reviewed Run (2020). Jeff and Devindra dissecting that movie while leaving Dave stuck to defend it will always be one of my fav pod moments.

Tyler Appleby

There are many worse. But it's wildly overrated. Also for little boys so there's an obvious overlap.

Mountain of Conflict

GRRM talks a lot of shit for someone in the sole business over an ever increasing amount of adaptations with no finished book series.

Mountain of Conflict

Thanks for talking about Everybody's in L.A.! Episode 5 was my favorite and maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a talk show format. Richard Kind is a treasure!

Matthew Henshaw

I’m with Jeff gladiator is one of the worst best picture winners. Yeughhhh.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Oof book editors just being disrespected here. Has Jeff or Dave never read a forward where the author profusely thanks their editor? Got damn.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Whenever this question comes up I think of Jeff’s glowing review of The Counselor

Gareth

I have noticed that sometimes the silence is laughter that is suppressed by the audio recording software

Zomino

Chappie is underrated, and we deserve a sequel!

Foxhound

I think Jeff’s jokes are more often than not great, and sometimes he’ll hit with what I think is a solid-gold precision strike that’s met with awkward silence and I feel so bad for him.

Cameron Stewart

This destroyed me.

Brandon Lee Tenney

Malcom in the middle joke won me back over. 😅😂
