So I’m in Korea now

Yup, that seems to be the gist of it.

Dear Patreons,

I hope you are all well. As expected a fore-warned gap of time has passed from my last post, caused by my travels to the land of Korea. It’s not that I haven’t had time to write a new post, though times have of course been busy. It’s more that I’ve found myself so full on adventure that I haven’t been able to find or prioritize the required mental energy to write a new post of update.

So, how’s it going? Pretty well if I say so myself. There hasn’t been a single moment of me regretting having taken this journey, and though I sometimes feel that my learning and working progress is too slow, not a day has passed where I haven’t learned something new.

Korea is different from Denmark and has a different culture—but not as different as I had expected. Both are post-modern peninsula-based countries about the same size, being influenced by the global world around them, though with varying emphasizes on different ideals and different cultures as base. On top of that the people that I’ve met here are very kind and accommodating, and I’ve found it easier to make friends here than what I normally would, probably due to a mix of my situation and the great openness of the people around me.

In terms of animation I’ve been spending my time trying to improve upon my storytelling, though hitting some walls here and there. I think right now what I am trying to learn from Mike is how animation and the essence of a performance in itself can influence storytelling. It’s a whole different level from what I’ve grown accustomed to see in the media, or produce myself, so it’s difficult for me to wrap my head around. I think it’s going to take far longer than this trip alone for it to really sink in and show up in my animation and directing, but I’m finding it very interesting, and I definitely want to keep at it, or let it push me to find my own answers somehow along the way. 

There are so many things I’d like to talk about, and pictures I’d like to share – but I’m not aiming to write a novel, and Patreon will only let me post a picture at a time. So I guess I’ll wrap it up and leave it in parts.
