After Dark: Favorite Dips, Mundane Stuff, Other Things We Saw at Sundance

The Filmcast: After Dark is the bonus show where we talk about a variety of random topics that didn't make it into the main podcast - including your questions and what's going on in our lives.

In this episode, David, Devindra, and Jeff discuss their favorite dips, plus some of the most mundane stuff they can imagine. Then, Devindra and David discuss some of the other movies they saw at Sundance this year.

Touché, Dave. I suppose repetition is part of human existence. For what it’s worth, please don’t take my facetious comment as an actual criticism of your wonderful podcast!

Here's a challenge: try speaking into a microphone for 2-3 hours per week for 15 years and see if occasionally you repeat themes and concepts in your life that are important to you. Sorry you guys find the podcast occasionally repetitive. It's not intentional.

I briefly flirted in the past with sarcastically asking in one of the mailbag threads if Devindra knows anything about NYC and if Dave likes movies that are about the immigrant experience, so I'm glad it's not just me. By the way, seems like yet another stupid choice for what this week's featured review is going to be, as Love Hurts was about as well received by critics and audiences as Kraven the Hunter was. I know Dave is doing his best to prop up a movie with an Asian lead, but they probably should have instead reviewed Heart Eyes, as that was a lot of fun and much better received/reviewed.

Devindra mentioning NYC and Dave referencing the immigrant experience, two permanent staples of our beloved Filmcast. Love Hurts could be Dave’s best film of 2025 if it even briefly mentions life back in the ‘Old Country’

Not sure why Devindra keeps talking erroneously about Hartford. There was a showcase Cinemas with 4 screens in East Hartford since the early 1970s. It eventually went to 12 or 14 screens over time ( it was renovated multiple times adding screens each time ). While four screens is nothing compared to the massive multiplexes of today, at the time it was a big deal. My very first movie going experience was at that cinema to see the original Christopher Reeve Superman.

David Stripinis

Does anyone know if Devindra ever lived in New York?

Folks, it’s 3:30am and I can’t sleep because *gestures around*. What a thrill and delight to escape for 40 minutes while my favorite podcasters discuss my insane query about their mundane habits and opinions. Dave, I’m so glad I gave you the venue to share your story about food temperatures. Thank you thank you thank you. Be well y’all.

I had no idea people had such a problem with hot food (other than soup).

This episode is peak Filmcast. More grab bag topics please!

Jeff, the same thing (kids watching things at full volume in a theater) happened to me. We do not, it seems, live in a society.

Just a passing thought: I would highlight that there's nothing worse than food that's too cold or a hot drink that is luke warm. Rather it be too hot and wait for it too cool. :)

The key to not breaking off a chip in queso specifically is to dip to coat and not scoop. Remain vertical and the chip won’t break.

Dave kept saying “food bowl” like he’s Borat or something 😆 He puts food bowl by air fan to decrease eat temperature for pleasure mouth swallow

What does David do when he goes to restaurants? Does he bring a portable fan and let it blow on the food? I can’t imagine being a waiter looking at him, they probably think he has an issue with the food cooked.
