With French, the word 'saute' has 2 syllables, I'm guessing: 'sau' and 'te'. So it makes sense for someone to say 'sau', then pause, and then say 'te', if they're surprised or confused, like Pia is here. However, I don't think it really makes sense to split the English word 'jumped' into 'jum' and 'ped'. The word 'jumped' only has 1 syllable (1 and a half if you're feeling generous...) and it just doesn't SOUND right to try and split this one-syllable word into two syllables. I'm pretty certain that NO English speaker would ever say 'jum', then pause, and then say 'ped', no matter how surprised or confused they were. It just wouldn't happen. What I think WOULD work is if Pia said 'j-jumped?' or 'j...jumped?' Having something like that in her speech bubble would look a lot more natural. I understand that it might be hard to fit that into the speech bubble that's here right now, but it would still look more natural. Maybe the speech bubble could be replaced, in this instance, with one that had enough room for the new text?
