Upload Notes: Discovery Part VI

Finally, a new update to Discovery! Thank you all for waiting as long as you did. I know this is a highly anticipated story for most of the patrons here, and I've been working hard these last few months trying to crack at this particular part of the narrative. If you haven't read it yet, go give it a whirl and you'll probably be able to tell why exactly I had so many hang-ups and delays, haha~

The basics of it is that this chapter didn't have much room, thematically, for pretty much ANY size content. At least, not the size content we've come to expect~ This was a pretty dramatic part of the story where things turn gloomy just after an exciting spike in emotions. It might seem like a big change of pace after the last part, where Duval and Sierra enjoyed a free and sexy night together, but this chapter tests their relationship by pitting them against the lab's obstacles.

Parts of this drama were, aha, more fun to write than others. The best part was the argument at the end, when the dialogue was finally allowed to flow without so many hesitations. Finally could they speak and get these feelings out. Everywhere else, there were so many restrictions in what I could possibly have them even do, which led to stunted sections where Duval and Sierra couldn't do much with each other. It was also difficult trying to come up with a situation where they could interact just enough, while still keeping up a somewhat realistic idea of how a lab would function.

But honestly, I think realism here has been my biggest hang-up. My problem is that, you might've guessed this, I'm no scientist. So the environment of scientistry and the world of scienceness, it's all very weird to me and I end up stumbling over the setting I've made for myself. I've created a pretty compelling universe (I like to think) that succeeds because of how real the consequences of things are, but I find myself struggling to keep that reality consistent and relatable. I always feel like I'm going to, like, write something embarrassing about science~ It's a silly fear, but it's part of what slows me down.

I don't think there's much else to say here. I hope that ending leaves you all anticipating a fun new part to the story next time!
