On May 30, 2020, SpaceX returned America’s ability to fly NASA astronauts to space on American vehicles for the first time since 2011. In addition to carrying astronauts to space for NASA, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft can also carry private passengers to Earth orbit, the ISS or beyond.
On board are the two Nasa astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley. The mission represents a novelty in several respects. For one thing, it is the first time that Nasa has relied on the rocket of a private space company. On the other hand, it is also the first manned flight of a SpaceX rocket. Furthermore, it will be the first time since the end of the Space Shuttle program in 2011 that astronauts will go into space from the USA.
