Edward, I know it might sound crazy... but I heard from a reliable source of stellars that Most (if not all) the pictures of galaxies, nebula, etc.... sky's objects are retouched on computers by NASA (I mean retouched to the point that it is really not what they look like in reality). So if you target's picture is a human construction on a computer... could it be the reason why you visualized "blocks" at first (pixel?)... Also is you target the real nebula in space or the picture of the nebula.
