Lore: Angels (part 2)

The supernatural hierarchy can be convoluted, but undoubtedly one of the most famous categories of angels for their effect on human mythology and popular culture are the archangels. Along with the common angels they're the only ones who have come into contact with the earthly plane. Even so, they're the last line of defense and rarely come into action, only when they are truly needed against a demonic or cataclysmic threat.

The rest of the time, their main function is to supervise the actions of the common angels they're in charge of. The archangels are seven in number and embody a virtue, their subordinates are all those who belong to that virtue.

The seven archangels

Rarely seen acting together, each of them has different interests and equally disparate concerns. If their actions are already rare, when two or more paladins decide to intervene in the same situation, it's considered a dangerous coincidence.

• Samuel (Generosity): He has hardly come into direct contact with humanity. He prefers to send messengers instead to inspire certain personalities. He's considered an emissary of love.
• Jophiel (Patience): Another of the most unknown archangels. She has stayed away from human affairs as much as possible, as she considers this to be God's true plan. She is known for being one of the archangels, along with Michael, most active in the war to banish to hell all the angels who betrayed heaven.
• Raphael (Charity): Although Raphael is one of the most active and famous angels among his kind, his main role and what he's known for is his extraordinary healing abilities. Although he has never shirked responsibility, nor conflict, facing powerful demons on multiple occasions, he has always felt more comfortable supporting others and restoring cities and the wounded after great disasters. Unlike the rest of his peers, the aftermath of war is as important to him as the war itself.
• Zaquiel (Chastity): Although little recognized, he has been among humans for generations. He has usually been forgotten, because he has always had a particular concern for small causes. Granting extraordinary gifts to ordinary people after an act of sincere repentance or righteousness. He remains oblivious to the affairs of heaven and the rest of his brethren. No one knows where he is and those who have looked for him have not returned to tell the tale.
• Michael (Humility): The archangel who embodies the demonic struggle. Always ready to go into battle, ready to devastate evil using any kind of tool. He isn't too concerned about humanity, nor the consequences of his actions, if it brings him a little closer to his goal.
• Uriel (Diligence): Uriel's way of acting isn't always understood by the rest of his congeners. His virtuous mind allows him to anticipate events and see the big picture without too much effort. That's why, unlike other of his brothers, his way of acting does not involve the use of weapons, but of precise schemes. He often enlightened prophets and other extraordinary humans to command humanity.  For centuries, though, he seems to have lost interest in the earth. No one knows exactly why.
• Gabriel (Temperance): In commemoration of his intervention to preserve the city of St. Gabriel, one of the great cities was named after him. He's the archangel who has intervened the most in the course of humanity, both in wars against demonic evil and for being the emissary of heaven and diplomat. He considers himself a politician, with the gift of speech and communication, he's able to mediate even with all the factors against him.

Differences with the rest of angels

They don't have their own bodies, they need a human or avatar to be in charge of possessing their essence. Generally, they're humans with extraordinary characteristics, since the essence of the archangels can hardly be contained. Even in this state of possession, they're able to transform themselves and maintain full control over the body they enter.

One of their most eminent characteristics is that they possess six pairs of wings instead of two. Also, their size is considerably larger than that of an ordinary angel and they have more strength and extraordinary talents than any other angel.

La jerarquía sobrenatural puede ser enrevesada pero, sin duda, una de las categorías de ángeles más famosas por su efecto en la mitología y cultura popular humana, son los arcángeles. Junto a los ángeles comunes son los únicos que han entrado en contacto con el plano terrenal. Aún así, son la última línea de defensa y rara vez entran en acción, solo cuando verdaderamente son necesarios contra una amenaza demoníaca o cataclísmica.

El resto del tiempo, su función principal es la de supervisar las acciones de los ángeles comunes de los que se encargan. Los arcángeles son siete y encarnan una virtud, sus subordinados son todos aquellos que pertenecen a dicha virtud.

Los siete arcángeles

Rara vez se les ha visto actuar de forma conjunta, cada uno de ellos tiene intereses diferentes y preocupaciones igualmente dispares. Si su actuación ya de por sí suele ser rara, que dos o más paladines decidan intervenir en una misma situación se considera una peligrosa coincidencia.

• Samuel (Generosidad): Apenas ha entrado en contacto con la humanidad de forma directa. Prefiere enviar mensajeros en su lugar que inspiren a determinadas personalidades. Se le considera un emisario de amor.
• Jophiel (Paciencia): Otro de los arcángeles más desconocidos. Se ha mantenido alejada de los asuntos humanos lo más posible, pues considera que ese es el verdadero plan de Dios. Es conocida por ser uno de los arcángeles, junto a Miguel, más activos en la guerra para desterrar al infierno a todos los ángeles que traicionaron al cielo.
• Rafael (Caridad): Aunque  Rafael es uno de los ángeles más activos y famosos entre los suyos, su papel principal y por lo que se le conoce, es por sus extraordinarias dotes curativas. Aunque nunca ha eludido una responsabilidad, ni conflicto, enfrentándose a demonios poderosos en múltiples ocasiones, siempre se ha sentido más cómodo apoyando a otros y restaurando ciudades y heridos tras grandes desastres. A diferencia del resto de sus compañeros, las consecuencias tras una guerra son tan importantes para él, como la guerra en sí.
• Zaquiel (Castidad): Aunque poco reconocido, lleva entre los humanos durante generaciones. Normalmente ha sido olvidado, porque siempre ha tenido una preocupación particular por las pequeñas causas. Otorgando dones extraordinarios a personas comunes tras un acto de arrepentimiento sincero o de justicia. Se mantiene ajeno a los asuntos del cielo y del resto de sus hermanos. Nadie sabe dónde se encuentra y quién lo ha buscado no ha vuelto para contarlo.
• Miguel (Humildad): El arcángel que encarna la lucha demoníaca. Siempre dispuesto a entrar en batalla, preparado para arrasar al mal usando cualquier tipo de herramienta. No le preocupa demasiado la humanidad, ni las consecuencias de sus actos, si con ello se acerca un poco más a su objetivo.
• Uriel (Diligencia): La forma de actuar de Uriel no siempre es comprendida por el resto de sus congéneres. Su mente virtuosa le permite adelantarse a los acontecimientos y ver el esquema completo sin demasiado esfuerzo. Es por eso, que a diferencia de otros de sus hermanos, su forma de actuar no implica el uso de armas, sino de esquemas precisos. A menudo iluminaba a profetas y otros humanos extraordinarios para que comandarán a la humanidad.  Aunque desde hace siglos parece haber perdido el interés en la tierra. Nadie sabe exactamente por qué.
• Gabriel (Templanza): En conmemoración a su intervención para preservar la ciudad de St. Gabriel se le puso su nombre a una de las grandes ciudades. Es el arcángel que más a intervenido en el transcurso de la humanidad, tanto en guerras contra el mal demoniaco como por ser el emisario del cielo y diplomático. Se considera así misme un político, con el don de la palabra y la comunicación, es capaz de mediar incluso con todos los factores en contra.

Diferencias con el resto de ángeles

No poseen cuerpos propios, necesitan un humano o avatar que sea el encargado de poseer su esencia. Generalmente, son humanos con características extraordinarias, dado que la esencia de los arcángeles, difícilmente se puede  contener. Incluso en este estado de posesión, son capaces de transformarse y mantienen pleno control sobre el cuerpo en el que entran.

Una de las características más eminentes es que poseen seis pares de alas en vez de dos. También, su tamaño es considerablemente más grande que el de un ángel corriente y cuentan con más fuerza y talentos extraordinarios que cualquier otro ángel.
