That sounds very difficult! I hope you can take the challenge at the end of this video and start applying it to reach out and make new friends. Nothing will be as "close" as the family you had growing up, but you can create very strong friendships over time. As you get older and older, it gets harder to make "old friends". Now is the best time to start. I've found jiu-jitsu a great activity to make some quality male friends. Maybe you can check out skeptic meetups. Have you considered writing a blog (perhaps anonymously) to process your experiences? Wishing you well.

When I was 21 I was shunned by basically my entire family, except my parents, on my mother's side when I left Jehovah's Witnesses at 19. I now have to face the fact that I will never get to be with people I loved and will spend the rest of my mortal life without them. Without anyone my own age to turn to should something hapen to me I know I will most likely suffer.
