You can forgive circumstances, experiences, life situations etc... For the latter things although, it's quite hard to forgive something that's not a person and may require a bit of practise as conventionally were only taught to forgive people. But, forgiving can give a spring cleaning effect in your mind and body removing negative thought patterns and emotions which may have even been a part of you for quite some time! It's the only true way to do a factory reset on your mental-emotional well being in my experience. Keeping busy with drugs, alchohol or in other means such as gaming, learning , excersise etc... Is only a temporary fix.
