Random Recommendation: Happiness

I generally save my random recommendations for Binger Tier patrons but I don't have much to share this week, since I'm still toiling away on the Superman Reading Order, so I thought I would share this one with all of you.

This is a little more random than most of my others being that it's a manga, but it's still a comic, just not an American comic.

I purchased a Humble Bundle about a year ago that included a bunch of horror manga for Halloween. I decided around then that I wanted to start reading more international comics, so I thought it would be a good way to get into Japanese reading materials, since I'm a pretty big horror comic fan.

Of everything I've read so far, Happiness was by far the best series and the one I would immediately recommend to anyone looking for a good horror series.

Although clearly influenced by Junji Ito's style, Shuzo Oshimi never gets to the level of disturbingness present in all of Ito's works. This is a series about vampires, but it's also very much a series about humanity and the struggles to fit in and be seen.

I binged all 10 volumes in two days and can't wait to seek out some of Oshimi's other works.
Happiness is currently available through Comixology Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited, for anyone who subscribes to those, and I wouldn't be surprised if it comes up in another Humble Bundle as we approach Halloween again this year.

Have you read Happiness or any other great horror manga or comics lately? Leave a comment!

If you like posts like this, make sure to adjust your patronage to the Binger Tier. I try to post these at least once or twice a month.

Just binged Animal Man (New 52) and well, that was cool. A little repetitive sometimes but nice overall. Not really horror per say but there's some nice body horror in there! I think I'll go deeper in the Parliaments lore with the Swamp Thing (65-end), having read Moore's not that long ago. I love this stuff. Read Ultramega too, again, not horror but with some "spooky" moments
