Marx is advocating a terrible statist strategy in the Manifesto (as, post-Commune, he came to recognise somewhat; thus the essential disavowal of those measures in a later preface). Later he gets contradictory on both ‘the state’ and the ‘DotP’. I’ve written about this: https://libcom.org/library/interpreting-marxs-theory-state-opposition-anarchism I think you’re wrong about what happened in Russia - the origins there are significantly in the practice of Bolshevism, through to Lenin and Trotsky, and with germs in Marx and Engels - but that’s a bigger issue…

I’m actually kinda confused by Sean’s point in this. The conflation of the dictatorship of the proletariat with direct Stalinism seems like an almost intentional vulgarization of Marxism. The rise of the Stalinist bureaucracy was very much the result of the material conditions of backwards Russia, with underdeveloped industry and an exhausted working class being unable to ensure the continuation of workers democracy due to general need and scarcity. In our time the balance of class forces is so much greater on the side of the proletariat and our productivity of labour is so much higher that a transitional program would not run into the same problems as the Russian revolution. To say that we need to abandon these perfectly sound methods for new ones is just kind of a bad reading of history. Would very much appreciate a reading series on State and Revolution and the Transitional Program where maybe you can clarify on these points.

Its a widely documented fact that Aaron endorses child abuse, and thats why we love him.

Everybody loves Aaron ❤️ - even if he is the author of Moderate Ass Whipping, how to raise kids who are moderately sane.
