Amazing interview!

This just makes me think of season 1 of white lotus; where the anti colonial middle class girl ends up fetishizing and exploiting native hotel worker. All while crying about her own “exploitation”

Solid episode. When it comes to autonomies in Chiapas or NE Syria, I think a critical but broadly supportive stance is the right way to go. As usual, what matters about these projects is the extent to which they reflect the effective autonomy of oppressed peoples. We support them where they do, and critique them where they don't.

As someone who still often finds 'anti-imperialism' to be a more useful heuristic than not, I really appreciated the analysis here, which I think are really necessary correctives to some of the more vulgar and less robust ways that this manifests (mostly online) in supposedly anti-imperialist analysis. I remember having to explain to someone in an ML Facebook group that, no, the Tudeh party isn't 'a random group calling itself communist' that is furthering U.S. imperialism by criticizing their own government lol.
