Diving into the Wreckage 5: Food Crisis w/ C Derick Varn

In the latest of our ongoing collaboration between Varn and Sean, the guys sit down to look at the multiple complicating factors behind the ongoing food crisis which has seen it's most striking culmination with the overthrow of the Sri Lankan government last week. How has capital shifted production, distribution and consumption of food crops? What kind of frailties has this produced for global grain supplies? And what are the likely complications as the crisis ratchets up in coming months?

That may be a fair critique--that Ackerman party surrogate strategy isn't really tried so we can't judge it. I get that, and it may be even be fair, but why isn't it tried even by the people who proposed it?

You can in the pocket cast podcast client, use the rss link to get the stream and you can save the episodes to your device

sorry you're having a hard time listening. not sure how to fix this tbh but maybe andy has an idea, i'll ask him

Comrades, I really like this format and was happy to see a new episode.. BUT then I saw that there is no download link for the file. What's up with that? I understand that in NYC you can probably stream to your mobile device everywhere for low cost, but that's not true where I am. When I want to listen to you at work or while doing gardening etc. I need the file on my device. So I would ask that please, in future include a download link once again.

I don’t see why the Ackerman party surrogate idea doesn’t get more love as a strategy. DSA hasn’t really implemented it, and the various Squad-like folks haven’t organized themselves into real caucuses either. But I think having a different brand is possible without wasting time on ballot access bs.

Thought you said heat resistant weed and I panicked.

"a lot of people aren't going to like what I have to say, and I hate to say this, but..." That Varn line has really underpinned this series so far and agree or disagree, has moved into those uncomfortable spaces where conversations should be taking place. Top stuff!!

Varn is so damn solemn and cheesy. I love him lol. Sean is more normal but obviously also a huge nerd. Its just really funny. This project has been a lot of fun to listen to
