Rework of MurMur

Hello everyone!

I wanted to write this along with the post about public release of 0.6. Month of the crunch for a faster release and situation in the world affected me. So, I wasn't in the right state of mind to talk about future and my plans. While this is not the place to talk about politics and I ask you not to discuss it in the comments either, I hope that everything will be resolved sooner than later. And civilians won't suffer anymore.

I don't know what future will have to offer. But I have my plans for it too. I have in mind next goal for my Patreon page, it will be a surprise and I think that most people would like it. For now, I can't implement it, but when everything is settled, I will announce it for you. Also, for the moment, I closed view on how much money I'm making on Patreon, as it's not comfortable for me to show. I hope you will understand. 

Now about the next update. Next update will be a rework of the first parts of the game. Now, I know how this sounds, and let me answer most of your questions:

- Does this mean we won't see continuation of the story in the near future?

Updates with the story continuation takes time, sadly. This rework update should take me less time to release, so I can jump to the full next update development, which I can't wait for myself, but first things first.

- Why doing it anyway, if you want to continue story yourself? 

It's simple, now or never. I'm at the point of the development, when I feel comfortable with the tools I have, and the image quality my game has. So, if I won't do this now, and if I'd decide to do it after, quality at the start of the game which I'd change would contrast with the parts of the game where I won't update it.

- What do you mean by rework? What this update will include?

By rework, I mean full graphical update of the first parts of the game and some changes to the text. This update will surely update parts before Sophie's cosplay quiz. Maybe some more after that, but I'm still in the process of determining the scope of work. This update will also include some QOL improvements. I want to use this update as a point of where I can change things, so my work on the game will be easier in the future. 

- How long it will take? What if I prefer not to support this rework and only full updates?

I could speculate on what, I think, is needed to be done and how much approximately it will take me to finish. But I won't. I want to avoid giving false hopes, if it takes longer than I can see now. That's why I don't give ETA for the updates. As for the support, it's always up to you to do that or not. I'm thankful to everyone who supports me and/or my work.

- Do I need to replay the game to continue it in the next full updates?

It's up to you. If you'd like to, then go ahead. But it won't be necessary to continue the story from where you left of. I won't change the text THAT much, so you would have to replay the game. What you can expect, however, is that there will be some scenes from previous parts of the game closed to you in the gallery. I will try my best to avoid it, but I can't promise that.


With all that said I hope that you will support my decision to make that rework. In the end my main goal is for MurMur to be a good and enjoyable game. If you have questions, feel free to ask them in the comments, so I can answer on them and update this post.

I know, I just want to make first parts the same quality as the latest

To be honest, when I read the word "rework", I was a bit worried. I feared you will restart the game from scratch.... I am reassured it's just the some update of the first part of the story. I just beg you to accept that maybe, all is not perfect as you want, but it will never be. It's may be hard, but all creators must accept imperfections in their works.
