Call and Response: WOFF! Dispatch January 2021
Added 2021-01-16 17:54:41 +0000 UTCHello! The purpose of this post is to call for your questions and prompts for WOFF! Dispatch. Please leave your response as a comment on this post by the end of the day on Monday, January 18.
We're looking for two kinds of things:
1. Suggestions for our long-form discussion prompt.
2. Q&A about the shows, behind the scenes details, and miscellaneous (including off-the-wall and off-topic questions). Ask us about games or other media, life in general... You name it.
One caveat we've given in the past: If the question is too personal or gross, we may dance around it and not give a direct answer.
We look forward to making this new kind of WOFF! episode together with you.

If the two of you had to recreate a Tim and Eric sketch (fully or just the audio), which would you do? And would I be right in assuming that Gary would be Tim and Kole would be Eric, based on interactions in the skits you've done on your podcasts?

2021-01-19 07:29:47 +0000 UTCHey playboys! Lightning round questions: Who would you guys add into the smash brothers roster? Also, which two companies/ip's would you bring into a vs. fighting game, ala Marvel vs. Capcom?

2021-01-18 20:33:20 +0000 UTCDo you chaps have any recommendations for single player cat games? (Ie. games / activities / toys for my cat to keep him amused—he has a lot more capacity for play than I do the ability to play with him, especially when I'm at work). Failing that, just cat toy recommendations would be much appreciated!

2021-01-18 19:22:15 +0000 UTCHave you ever modded a game to the extent and depth that the vanilla experience holds little to no joy for you? I'm not referring to mods that make otherwise bugged games stable (see DSfix), but rather games that are perfectly serviceable products in vanilla that simply feel hollow in comparison to their modded counterparts. The modern Bethesda games are this for me, to the point that the idea of returning to vanilla Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim is simply not an option anymore.

2021-01-17 19:44:42 +0000 UTCWhat was your game of 2020 (released last year or played for the show)? If that's too basic what's your favourite mythological creature, I'm partial to a Wendigo.

2021-01-17 18:17:09 +0000 UTCWhen you do WOFFs on multiplayer games, how come you don't seem to play together? I only ask because I just listened to the RE5 episode (I'm pretty far behind) and it didn't seem like you played together (or with anyone multiplayer at all). Is it because you don't want to poison each other's impressions?

2021-01-17 16:49:18 +0000 UTCWhat game developer/director/studio would you love to see get hold of an existing series they’ve never worked on? For example, if you were insane you might want Hideo Kojima to work on the next Mario game, or Bethesda to make the long-awaited sequel to Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.

2021-01-17 00:37:46 +0000 UTCDo you think that "backwards compatibility" issue/gripe is just for grumpy old gamers? I was genuinely a little bummed that the PS5 isn't going back farther than the last generation, and whereas I know I'm not alone there I feel like you also have to balance that against the constant background hum of complaints about pretty much everything nowadays.

2021-01-17 00:25:47 +0000 UTCThere's a russian saying "Us Russians have it pretty good on average. Sure, this year is worse than last year but at least it's better than next year."

2021-01-16 21:27:29 +0000 UTCNot a question really at all but this past year I’ve gone back and listened to all the older bonfire side chat episodes again (I’ve had a lot of free time in 2020) and there are so many times when y’all make jokes about the political climate and how the world is a garbage fire and has to get better... in 2014! Every time I hear y’all talk about to future with hope I just think to myself “oh you sweet summer child, if only you knew” and chuckle knowingly to myself. Anyway thank you for helping me this past year (and years really) with everything from stress walks to staring blankly into a void while y’all talk about some of my favorite and sometimes least favorite games. This network has 100% made this year more bearable! Sending love and hoping 2021 treats everyone much better.

2021-01-16 21:12:02 +0000 UTCAny particularly striking Call and Response questions you've had to turn down in the past?
Matt Bixler! Hello!
2021-01-16 19:03:46 +0000 UTCHave you ever used something you learned in real life to help with a game? Here's a favorite example for myself, and sorry if this runs a bit long, you can trim as you see fit -- When Fallout 4 came out I got it right away due to both it being a Fallout game and being in Boston, a city I know quite well as a native New Englander. One quest in the game has you 'walk the Freedom Trail' as you follow the markers to find the Old North Church and finish the quest. Or at least that's what the game WANTS you to do. The markers are REALLY hard to see, though, and after a few tries I slapped myself in the head and went 'What the fuck am I doing? I majored in American History! I've WALKED the Freedom Trail in real life! I KNOW where the Old North Church is!' So even though I didn't have it on the map yet, I went to the spot where I 'knew' it was, found it, finished the quest, and saved myself a LOT of frustration.

2021-01-16 18:59:46 +0000 UTCYou must have a romantic evening with one character from the Extended Mario Universe (so Donkey Kong counts). It can not be Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Daisy. Who do you choose?

2021-01-16 18:27:03 +0000 UTCLove the show! Gary, I heard you mention that you were in a band and made music while listening to older episodes, I was wondering where I could find your music?

2021-01-16 18:26:24 +0000 UTCLoved your Vice City episode. I can say Vice City really open my friends and I eyes to 80s music(for better or worst lol). What games do you think were elevated by their soundtrack? Without the score these games would probably be forgotten.

2021-01-16 18:16:09 +0000 UTCHow do you feel about professional gaming, whether that be multimillion dollar organizations (League and Dota) or streaming (Lobos Jr.)? Do you think the attention and money poured into those industries has impacted modern gaming culture, journalism, and game development positively or negatively on balance? Love the shows, thanks for your hard work during a shitty year.

2021-01-16 18:11:24 +0000 UTCYou are given an unlimited budget to develop a game based on an Al Pacino movie that doesn’t already have a video game adaption. Which movie do you pick and what kind of game is it?

2021-01-16 17:58:00 +0000 UTCWhat are your favorite herbs (and flavor combinations)? I personally love basil (with tomato and mozzarella) and rosemary or sage (with just about everything).

2021-01-16 17:56:44 +0000 UTCIs there a game out there that has mechanics that you think look genuinely fun or interesting, but simply can’t bring yourself to play due to theming or aesthetics? For me the Zeboyd Penny arcade games fit this to a T, look super interesting and I enjoy their other games, but I can’t bring myself to play a fucking PENNY ARCADE Rpg
