Exquisite Suffering 144: Def Jam: Fight for NY

The idea of millionaires who happen to be talented artists using their resources to make video games where they go on little adventures is extremely charming. That's our baseline approach to talking about Def Jam: Fight for NY, which is ABSOLUTELY not a bad game. Just not a game for us. But, growing up in the 90s, it was impossible to escape both hip hop and wrestling, even if you wanted to, so we have some stuff to talk about here.

also the best Henry Rollins content, imo, is him screaming about frozen yogurt being falsely advertised on the Eric Andre Show also also, this episode got me to visionboard an all out throw down between Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire and the New Pornographers. at the end stood a bloodstained Neko Case, the only victor of the Canadian carnage

my friends and i loved this game in high school, just for the charm of all these rappers we liked street wrestling eachother. my favorite detail is that Redman doesn’t join the Fight For NY for most of the story because he’s taking a nap on the couch

I like this idea

Brayton Cameron

A Jeremy/Brayden podcast about the lineup, where it starts with an explanation of the character and mechanics, then leads into a mini File Under Water about the artist, would be amazing.

Isaiah John

This show keeps me going

Bradley Morton

I have so many questions regarding Coles school. Hilarious episode boys.

When I was a small child my dad took me to subway and for some reason Hulk Hogan was standing outside it talking to someone. I recognized him immediately and called out to him. He started to put on the "Hey brother!" Character when I ran up and bombarded him with questions about Macho man Randy Savage. According to my dad he got visibly annoyed and dad had to hurry me away from him.

Gentlemen, I could never fault you for not having more esoteric rap knowledge, but I can (and will) fault the universe for not making you aware of more Joe Budden lore prior to recording this episode. Mr. Budden now hosts a successful podcast where he has, among other confessions, admitted to jerking off his dog. Just absolutely incredible shit
