Bonfireside Chat 225: Caelid, North

This week we begin our hunt for General Radahn, who continues to arrest the stars from his current home in the wastelands of Caelid. We know where to find him, but the trick is making our way to him across this blighted, rotted, poisoned land.

Specifically, this episode covers everything along the Caelid Highway from north to south, until you reach the Smoldering Wall. There are several minidungeons to investigate in this densely packed desert.

Sorry just playing catch up but there is an above ground wyrm in the snowfield too

Not today Satan

The Fire Scorpion charm is found in the Altus fort with the Fire Prelate and a bunch of Fire Monks surrounding it. So that item placement makes sense wrt to the Scorpion charms. Great stuff! Enjoying the podcast.

Elden Ring is my first From game. I enjoyed it immensely. I finished it. I’m now playing Demon’s Souls and have listened to your earlier podcasts about this game. Great stuff! In one episode you were asked if you had read the Elric of Melnibone books. The person who wrote in said the Elric series reminded him of Dark Souls. You both responded that you hadn’t read the books. Has that changed? Fortunately, they are now being released as audiobooks. Cheers!

Aside from Leyndell and the Haligtree, as a whole, Caelid really does encapsulate Elden Ring and From's interface with popularity. I cannot imagine being a Skyrim professional person then seeing this area. I think ER is the most difficult From game - and being thrust into Caelid is so true to form for this studio. It is so oppresively mean and unwelcoming and beautiful. The exact unwelcoming and expected perseverance is why From & MIYAZAKI deserve so much respect. Caelid, Haligtree, Leyndell are their capstones and the sales are their flowers.

Nice episode! I've been enjoying this season, and it's a treat to arrive at such a memorable locale. Super-hostile color out of space meat swamp.

Some of the fauna in Caelid looks like Amygdala’s head in Bloodborne. As you guys mentioned Fromsoft have done this before and it’s always awesome.

Thought you might find it interesting that Caelid translates as fields of wrath in Welsh. Cae for field and llid for wrath.

I think the T-Rex birds in Mohg's area could be explained by the area being underneath caelid IIRC. I don't know if there's a way to explain how they got down there though.
