Real Lich Hours 14: Sunlit Wetlands

Real Lich Hours 14: Sunlit Wetlands

Comments

The wetlands were not very sunlit for me. I came in via mushroom circles from the under dark and apparently missed a lot!

Agree with what @CharmedSatyr says about some save scum as they're not used to being able to "fail forward" in games, or are afraid somehow they'll be locked out of something. I kind of knew/figured this game lets you solve or access just about anything in multiple ways, something I found much more through my recent full-evil Durge playthrough where I had to look for alternatives to getting certain quests done or access to areas etc. compared to my initial playthrough where a lot of things were achieved by talking/persuasion/checks and going full evil I was doing a lot more conflict/fighting and not much talking my way into/out of situations. Definitely made for a fun way to see all the different ways I could accomplish the same things. Speaks well for the developers to account for many different modes of play and various outcomes to any individual parts of the stories and quests. Though often the overall major outcomes are not that different (usually a choice between two main outcomes), the individual beats often play out slightly differently lending to a lot of fun when comparing your experiences with someone else's for any given moment and lots of replayability for trying different things.

I just met Auntie Ethel in the druids grove, selling potions and fuzzing about me. She invited me (Dark Urge) to her house to see if she could fix me. She also came on to me, which was somewhat unsettling.

Are you guys going to update the RSS feeds in light of Google Podcasts going down on 4/2/2024? Please let us know!

Some people save scum because they're not used to being able to fail forward in games. As a tabletop DM, my goal is fun roleplay rather than having anybody "win" a scenario, and I've had some newer TTRPG players get discouraged or ask for a retcon if they're not pwning a session. It's important in that case to have their situation pay off in unexpected ways. BG3 does as good a job as any digital game at allowing players to fail forward (I prefer single save mode), but it takes a lot of trust for someone to abandon the preconceived power curve they've envisioned for their character and go with the flow.

The minute the hag transformed and ran into her lair… I absolutely did not want to go after her. She’s horrifying!

i love quicksaves! i think theyre a perfect difficulty setting. Give people a no/limited quicksave option and let everyone choose how many oreos they want to eat in one sitting. I am playing through Divinity Operating System 2 with maximum quicksaves right now, rerolling all my madcap schemes to see if they work, housing stacks of oreos. Its great!!

This can happen even if you fight her here, as long as you spare her, iirc. You get another chance in act 3

I love the fact that you can just Baa at the sheep/redcaps. One thing I do everytime I play through it haha

Also… you don’t *have* to fight the Hag… help her and she’ll maybe potentially be your ally for Act 3… ;)

Lae’zel looks great with the hag-eye, I always tend to do right eye cause that’s what’s facing the camera the most I’ve noticed when talking to npc’s and if it’s on the left it’s too understated IMO

Choosing to ignore the checks lets you do the Decrepid Sanctuary in broad daylight which is a nice change of pace and scenery for this area typically! Summon woodland being is incredible. Their special Druid weapon buff is actually op.

Fun Times at Grandma's!

Due to not save-scumming, I went with the first swamp illusion check not being successful and was rewarded with beautiful shot of a sheep and Gale in a staring contest on a meadowy hill while the illusion around them vanishes and the follow up dialogue, where the redcaps and your character say Baaaa to each other until the conversation is over. Now I save-scum to fail checks in order to direct the story 👍 thanks for the podcast!
