Brik Blastoff of the Outback

Around 1980 I created some characters for a science fiction cartoon I wanted to make.

The main character was Brik Blastoff, captain of the space police. Brik is the universe's most manly man. He was patterned after Kirk Douglas. As you can see, he is very intense. He is constantly having to suppress his inner emotions. This requires the utmost discipline.

Sometimes his inner emotion is so strong it can't contain itself and his clothes burst off. Chris Peterson made a very nice sculpt of him.

Here's Brik facing off with his sergeant Buck Bronto, the world's manliest woman. They are about to demonstrate self-defense techniques to the crew. After I created the characters I worked with Tom Minton, Lynne Naylor and Jeff John to develop a story bible.

Here's Tom and I having a gag session.

And here's the introductory page to the story bible.

 More to come...

Wow, in Living Animation, John. More like “Living Drawn Animation!” Say, I love how much gestures, contours and anatomy in caricatured relationships in your character’s designs. Say, please keep up the strongest bravado in your pitches and writings and pictures, Johnny, but please #StandWithAnimation! #StayTooned!! Oh, and Godspeed be onto you and your friends and family!
