Fake Black and White 5 - Minnie's Body

The classic Minnie used to go around topless but me being such a prude, I gave her a bra.

I brushed a few different areas on her bosom to try to give a fake 3d roundness to them. It's not entirely successful.

Her panties are a greyed down warm pink and I rimmed the bottom of the shape with a slightly darker version of the color.

I drew some pinch lines around the top of the legs with a thin, soft and slightly warmer darker red.

Not satisfied yet, I darkened the bottom a bit more to make the shape easier to read against the grey background.

On the hands I created shadows using a brush that is soft like an airbrush but also has spatter in it. I left the lines in solid black ink instead of using softer brush strokes. I may do that later.

I selected her torso and used a radial gradient going from a greyed blue to black.

Then I brushed on shadows under her boobs using the spatter/airbrush. I named the brush 'magic air' because it brushes on something like pixie dust.

Her feet fills are greyed down brown colors, the one behind slightly darker.

I airbrushed a fat area towards the top half of the shoe. (Rather than in the middle which would make it look too mechanical.)

Then I made the brush tip smaller and sprayed a shadow along the bottom of the shoe. (Note that it isn't completely parallel to the bottom which again would make it look mechanical.)

I sprayed a light rim at the top of the show and it is too parallel and looks mechanical. I'll try to fix it later.

I used the same techniques on the right shoe which is in a group under the left foot group.

Now, the drawing is roughly complete and so I'll look at it all together as a whole.

When I am painting my drawings I usually do one area at a time and them when everything is filled with color and rendered I look at it and critique it.

I'm not totally happy with how it all looks yet. The greyed yellow shading on the yellowish face kind of looks dirty. Maybe greyed yellows have that tendency. I will mess around with the colors to see if I can make it look cleaner.

I have some other critiques too:

The bra and panties look like they are the same color even though technically they aren't. The bra is also a bit hard to read against the face.

I mentioned the airbrush at the top of her shoes.

So the last step in doing my paintings is to after critiquing it to tweak the details until I reach satisfaction and show it to people.

You know I used to have this great Disney book "Mickey and the Gang" that reprinted a lot of 30s magazine stories that the Disney studio made. They weren't flat colors like regular comic books; they were instead beautifully painted and rendered with water colors. It would have been good reference for me while I was painting my versions of Disney characters.

Unfortunately I must have lent the book to someone because I can't find it. Ah, I just found it on Amazon and am going to reorder it.
