Blop - Alien Girl Painting

I have this character who is an alien girl from another dimension. Her name is Blop.

I've painted her before, but wanted to try something a little different this time.

I started the same way I start all my paintings by first inking and filling the shapes with flat colors.

Drawing girls is hard because they are more complex than typical funny animal cartoon characters. You want them to have form but also be curvy and organic. I use a lot of 'S curves' and avoid straight lines. I want everything to flow like a liquid.

Once I finished the inking and paint fills I wondered how I could render her to look more alien than my typical paintings.

I thought to myself "what are the most alien animals on earth?" Of course!

Slimy sea creatures.

I especially like wet things that are partly transparent so I thought I would try to mimic these weird creatures.

I started with the head. I rimmed the head with light lines and a layer of soft airbrush to try to give it a partly transparent look.

Same idea with the eyes.

It's not quite what I'm trying for yet but it's a start.

I did the hair pretty much like I usually do, no slimy parts.
