I so wanted to love this episode. Unfortunately it's a blend of some fantastic writing. With one of the most emotionally charged moments in all of NuWho, as Graham exclaims how he doesn't want to be part of this moment in history. No surprise in Bradley delivering again. Coupled with other moments. Which I can only describe as an 80's or 90's after school special, or something I'd probably have seen in a school educational film. This style is just not for me personally. The villian is very clumsily tacked on to the historical event they wanted to have an episode about. This idea is so on the nose and I feel has such a severe lack of creative imagination, that it undermines the very story they are passionate about telling. They should have just told a story where they found themselves in 1955. Inadvertently gotten evolved in events and were forced to set them back on track becoming unwittingly part of it all. Some good comedy moments paralleled by the decision not to stear focus away from a subject and depictions that had previously only been acknowledged and side stepped before. Could have been so much better imo.

The focus on Rosa was also good. The racial tensions that Ryan and Yaz face also makes this a very dangerous setting for our companions to roam around in. We've touched upon racial issues before with Martha and Bill but it hasn't been to the extent of this level where they become a huge target among individuals due to their race making it harder for them to be more present. It feels like a completely different world. Very toxic and scary whenever they enter the cafe or when the police roam around through motels to search for them. All the eyes fixated on them really sells the tension. I felt so much tension when they had to hide from the police and when all eyes are fixated on them. Even Ryan being slapped was uncomfortable. I like how all the companions each have a role in this story in terms of not only protecting Rosa but also making sure that history plays its course with the bus incident. I liked the cat and mouse game of nudging history. There was some nice moments too with Graham's mention of Grace, Yaz talking to Rosa about her occupation and Ryan meeting Martin Luther King. His reaction was brilliant. You could tell how ecstatic and happy he was when he kept addressing them by their full names. I'm not a big fan of Ryan but this is easily one of his best character moments. Even him trying to reassure Rosa of the future was great and I liked his conversation with Yaz near the bins. The ending is also a very pivotal moment with them having to be part of the bus event. The realisation on Graham's face always made me get strong feels. However, there is only one issue with this story and that issue is Krasko. I understand that he is a space racist from the future but even on a rewatch, I struggle to see the purpose of his inclusion even though I like the cat and mouse game between The Doctor and him. Because he can't kill due to having a brain implant placed upon him during Stormcage, he really doesn't feel like much of a threat and more of a nuisance. I struggle to see why they let him roam around. I had the same questions as you. Like why couldn't they tie him up or lock him away in the Tardis to stop him interfering with Rosa? Since he can't kill them, they could easily overpower him without much trouble. I feel you could just replace him with a time distortion problem that keeps altering reality or events such as missing people which could explain how not enough people were on buses or something else. Or maybe they could have just made Krasko more dangerous by him not having the brain thing. I actually thought the people living in Montgomery felt more hreatening than Krasko. I also feel like they got rid of him too easily. I know they briefly showed Ryan tampering with the machine but it felt too simple and easy. But other than that, I really enjoyed the episode. Definitely one of the best ones in this era of Doctor Who. Showcases a very harsh but realistic nature of racism. I like how proactive everyone was in this story and it did hit the feels going in certain scenes too. Definitely a great episode.
