2021-12-31 15:08:21 +0000 UTCAs well as just being generic 80s horror pastiche, the gory scenes are also a callback to Mack liking those types of movies. I can't remember exactly when it was first mentioned but they also revisited in the Framework arc when Hope watched them with him. I feel like this whole season they have used the Chronicom story to do these versions of classic film/tv of various era. This is the one where it's the most stretched to fit. At some point they clearly decided to just go with it. I have to say I love it.
