Sounds like you have a system that works for you. That is important. If it works for you, stick with it.

I am still a fan of the butt pack and belt. I don’t use a giant bag as I don’t want to use suspenders. They reason is consistency. Every day carry is on my belt and mags are on the left of the belt line. I have a simple rig , 3 dual AR/Pistol mags on the left. Right has knife, then water and IFAK that’s the core setup. Inside the butt pack are simple things some pier bars, extra ammo , note book , pencil maps , compass.
Then slick plates and carrier and patrol pack can go on if needed.
