I've been hypothermic on three occasions... once riding my motorcycle through Targhee Pass when an early snowstorm blew up, Once sailing south through very rough seas off the Washington / Oregon coast for a 14 hour watch since everyone else was down with severe seasickness, and once more on the boat in RaroTonga during Tropical Storm Isaac in Mar '82 when we lost the boat. The end result is that I broke my body's thermostat so that I run about 97.1 degrees vs. 98.6. All three times my core temperature went down below 95, but without significant impairment except for shuddering and severe shivers.
