Yes, you are correct, and I agree with you 100%. We are children of God, and our true citizenship resides in Heaven. But we have to do what we can, while we are here. I will pray for your son.

I hope I am not speaking out of turn but I believe you have previously mentioned that a Christian. If I am wrong, please forgive me. If you are a Christian, please remember that although we may live in (& truly love) the US, our citizenship is in heaven.
I don’t share this from a prideful place as I’ve been very afraid myself lately, not for the election but for my ill son (nothing better to remind me of what really matters.) God had to call me back in line with this reminder:
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 and this “He hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5b. I do “prep” but I have to constantly remind myself that the world or God Himself could take away every single thing I’ve set aside. Be it the government, fire, flood or fellow sinners, it could be gone in a heart beat. Regardless, we have Him and He promises that He has us.
