⚖️Cannibal October⚖️"Flesh & Bone" 20 pgs

Read Right to Left!

In celebrating the month of October, I'm continuing this train of discarded drafts/attempts on the long road to developing Cannibal October!

How fare thee, all! A twenty page comic from 2020 here! This one I saw as serving a double purpose: At the time, Tezuka's annual comic contest was going on. I tried my hand at making an entry for submission, while also intending for it to serve as a beginning to my passion project's story. I had resigned myself to the idea that I had no chance of winning, you see! So I may have gotten my own use out of it, why not?
In the end, even after staying up 35+ hours to finish this comic before the deadline... I had made a mistake in the submission process, and failed to enter it at all!
In any case, I recommend anyone who's pursuing comics to try entering contests. Not so much for try for a win, but to learn more about your own abilities. Working on this comic had taught me of just how capable I was of making a detailed looking comic in a short amount of time. It showed me I was stronger than I had thought, and to believe in my abilities more!

As you can see it seems like the MC and my other character (Buck) Tagen had been placed in a more prehistoric time period for this. It seems to me like the MC is a tad bit older than some other iterations, maybe in his middle teens.

AWE LMAO MSource!! xD GOSH YEAH I can feel your enthusiasm!! Buck is such a welcome character to have around xD I love having him involved and in a moving comic like this--! He was once the main character I had wanted to have his own series back when I was in highschool, so I think it's cute and fitting that the two main characters from different halves of my life came together for this story. I'm glad this comic still leaves somewhat of a good impression years later, I had tried my best at the time-- But I certainly don't think it holds up to the competition for Tezuka! If I were a judge, I would probably have thought that this comic was a little unclear over certain things, and although it has the beats of a short story, the moments between characters wasn't as impactful as it could have been. To be fair though, I do see potential in it! And I appreciate so much that there are readers like you who are invested!! 8u8 That's all I could ever want!!! Thank you again for your insightful and encouraging commentary, MSource!! <3 <3

Alrighty, I really loved Buck in this and the dynamic you had between them. It's amazing how in so few pages you managed to throw me into an emotional loop and convey a complete story (oneshot) in one go! The more prehistoric element really added a feeling of wonder that entranced me, you don't see too many comics that place themselves in that time period without it being from a dinosaur's perspective or a rough and tumble generic cookie cutter caveman's. My favorite page is the one with the landscape and Thorn (like that name btw, hitting that tribal feeling again) in the distance before Buck woke up, it really shows a balance you found between your use of black and white over the years to get the best out of both colors. As for story I legit died at the crows going for Buck, that was such a welcomed funny chibi-esque anime moment in what was otherwise a really serious story! The farting thing made me snort but that had more malicious of a sensation than this which felt more innocent by way of nature XD The water... I assume that was saliva from Buck shouting that landed on Thorn's face? Does that mean Thorn lost his limbs from Buck maybe having gone primal and eaten on him maybe? Or was wounded and some of his body fluids got on Thorn? He did mention him dying so that's really got me invested! The way Thorn becomes a reluctant student at the end put a smile on my face, a smile that became a full on Cheshire grin when he accidently outed his name. And the glimpse of Thorn's mother!!! She looks so badass in her outfit, a picture of a potential medicine woman/warrior in one vibe XD It's heartbreaking this didn't get to make it into the contest. I really could have seen it, if not winning, at least getting substantial recognition of some kind. This comic feels very professional in it's quality from the consistency in imagery to overall layout which makes it glide seemly when reading. This is four years old but I still feel this is of a good quality that you could still enter it into future short contests if you wanted ^^ (Also help, my latent fangirl side went a bit wild with Buck - Tagen in this <3)
