Bangladesh, back then was called East Pakistan and the rest of Pakistan was called West Pakistan. In East Pakistan, most people were Bengalis (though most of them used to follow Islam as their religion), while in West Pakistan most of them were Muslims and when Pakistan declared Urdu as their official language, East Pakistanis were not okay with it as they used to speak Bengali and hence wanted a separate nation called Bangladesh. They split from Pakistan in 1971.
