Good House of the Week: Utah Edition

Hello friends! Today I found the most precious (extremely) 70s A-frame. A-frames like this one are really just a step up from camping and the photographs frankly don't do it justice.

A-frames were popular second homes or vacation homes in the 60s and 70s because of their economical, yet dramatic design. This A-frame was almost certainly designed with this purpose, considering its compact, cabin-like atmosphere. I personally love them for their clever utilization of space and their whimsical aesthetic. Unlike the geodesic dome, another novelty home of the period, A-frames were more resilient to the elements (especially rain) and continue to be built (albeit in smaller numbers) as vacation and permanent homes to this day.

This house is awesome. What a countertop!

We had an a-frame cabin in the Utah mountains growing up, and let me tell you, that sloping roof was the envy of all the neighbors when the heavy snow would pile up. Snow would just slide right off that thing. Inside, it was a little awkward in some spots. But no snow on the roof!
