The main reason these are all labeled McMansions despite some being more architecturally benign than others is because they were all built as speculative housing funded by investment banks and venture capitalists, and abandoned because the bubble burst. These houses were not built for someone to call home. They were built to be bought, sold, and traded before the mortgage-backed securities scheme fell apart. A house built without the intention of being a home to someone is one of the number one qualifiers of being a McMansion in my book.
