I can’t stand Tarka so his backstory did nothing for me either, and it did take away from getting more progress on the story. However, without spoiling anything, it does come to a satisfying conclusion, in my opinion.

Engineers go to assigned terminals/constantly repairing things so they dont break, Medics stand by in medbay, security guards entrances, and delegates/guests relax in there room or bug the bridge officers about what going on lol.
