I think part of the reason why Iroh went with him is because he most likely felt responsible for letting Zuko to go into the war meeting. Also besides the hair change, younger Zuko had an innocent expression to him being scowling now. When you’re done with the show, there’s a novel that explains why Zuko has the bald ponytail.
