I watched this live when it came out, and it absolutely was devastating! In the real Sherlock Holmes stories, he really did die in "The Reichenbach Fall" so that mixed with not knowing if there would be another season made his "death" very believable up until the final scene. We also had to wait 2 years for season 3 to find out how he did it.
