Quintessential Deckerstar- This episode's ending is absolutely gut wrenching and heartbreaking, but between Charlotte's death, seeing Amenadiel gain back his wings upon finding himself worthy of gaining them back so he can fly Charlotte up to Heaven where she truly belongs, and to Lucifer finally opening up to Chloe about his fear that she would run away from him if she were to see all of him including his monstrous side... this ending is absolutely perfect, and just so, so beautiful. I absolutely love everything about this ending, from the music, to the emotions, and seeing both moments occurring simultaneously. I know some people feel that this beautiful moment between Lucifer and Chloe... while beautiful, may be misplaced. That perhaps it should have been placed in another episode, or maybe earlier on in this episode. However, I disagree. I love that this moment occurs at the same time as this beautiful scene between Charlotte and Amenadiel. Their moment adds so much emotion in the best possible way, and with all the heartache we feel from losing Charlotte and seeing Amenadiel fly her to Heaven, we most certainly deserve to feel a heartwarming emotion that lifts us up a little in this ending as well, until of course we see Chloe, Lucifer, and especially Dan arrive at the lookout point, heartbroken to find Charlotte's body. And of course, my heart breaks even more, especially upon seeing Dan's reaction as he lifts her body into his arms while he cries. However, the kiss Lucifer and Chloe share, and seeing how loving Chloe is towards him upon him opening up to her and expressing his fear about how he believes himself to be evil because he's the Devil... so beautiful. I love how she assures Lucifer that to her, he isn't the Devil. That he isn't evil. And Lucifer most certainly needs to hear this. Especially from Chloe. I love it!! Their kiss... incredible! :) And in the very end... I love that we see Lucifer find a single feather from Amenadiel's wings to let him know that not only had he flown Charlotte to Heaven where she and Amenadiel will now be at peace and truly happy, but also so that Lucifer will know his brother had been right about angels self actualizing just as we humans do. That Amenadiel's wings, and Lucifer's wings and Devil face come from how they truly feel about themselves. It's truly beautiful. :) And lastly... There are at least two reasons why I believe Lucifer can't show Chloe his wings. First... because he is absolutely terrified that Chloe will run away from him, just as he tells her in this beautiful moment between them in the ending. Because if she were to see his wings, she would realize he has been telling her the truth about himself being the Devil this whole time as well, and she would become terrified of him. Lucifer doesn't ever want to hurt Chloe, nor does he want her to ever fear him because he cares about her far too much. He loves her very deeply. And second... because Lucifer believes himself to be the Devil and we've seen that a part of him believes himself to be a monster who hurts all of those he truly cares about. Deep down he believes this. So, I think that for Lucifer... having his wings back and forced upon him, makes him feel like a liar, or a hypocrite. Since angelic wings such as his represent something good. A being that is good. And while Lucifer started off as an angel, his entire family and the entire world all see him as nothing more than a Devil as he's come to believe about himself. His wings to him are nothing but torment because they don't make sense to who he believes himself to be. Therefore... he feels he can't reveal his wings to Chloe because he believes that in doing so, it would make him a liar. And he has told Chloe that he never wishes to lie... least of all to her. I believe Lucifer is only willing to reveal his wings to Charlotte, because she was about to throw her entire life away by preparing herself to turn herself into the looney bin upon coming to believe she has become crazy. And Lucifer and Amenadiel only had this one way to prove to Charlotte she wasn't crazy. Lucifer shows his wings to Charlotte to save her. I hope all of this answers your questions. Thank you both so very much for your reaction to this absolutely beautiful and powerful episode that is wonderful in every way from start to finish, gentlemen! And it's definitely one of my absolute favorite episodes throughout all of season three. I am so happy you loved this episode, in spite of feeling so heartbroken upon Charlotte's tragic death. So, thank you, John and Steve! Sincerely, Heidi
