To answer your ?, no, it was not known that it would be renewed for a 5th season. Then Lucifer hit #1 - most watched Netflix TV series of the year! Netflix never looked back and gave them 16 episodes for season 5, split in 2 parts, also when Covid hit filming and production. The roles reversed when Netflix wanted Lucifer to stay streaming more than the show runners did. Soooβ¦ they reached a compromise, season 6, the final season- for real this time π€£ so we know what happens- every story arch has a final destination with nothing left unanswered.
