2023-06-02 00:52:33 +0000 UTCSeason 1 ended in September 2019. The movie was released in April 2021 as a bridge between S1 and S2. Season 2 E1 (this one) was released in October 2021 and episodes 2-7 are the same content as the movie, so people who didn't watch the movie still get caught up with the story. Season 2 episodes 8-18 are the next arc of the story but are still part of season 2 and were released weekly right after episode 7. One could say the movie was a money grab, but fans were getting antsy since there was nearly a two-year gap between season 1 and season 2, and who doesn't love a movie? Easy decision with ufotable's skills - "movie quality" is their bread and butter. Demon Slayer is also a bit weird because it doesn't fit into either our western idea of "seasons" or the Japanese weekly release schedule of long-running anime. Instead it's broken up into story arcs, and there may or may not be more than one arc per release season.
