Canute leave because he just saw a miracle in Thorfinn. In S1, he realize that human's love is imperfect/discriminate, that's why we can't escape from conflict. He want to create a paradise where such imperfect love could exist(For lost love episode). But seeing Thorfinn, a Viking, express that unconditional love(lost love) is like a miracle. In S1 he told Bjorn, that Viking is the farthest from love, and previous episode he told Thorfinn that Viking represents chaos and destruction. He never thought that such a man can be born amongst Viking. He even mention that Thorfinn is beautiful.

2023-09-20 14:52:14 +0000 UTCI think the real life reason why England didnt rebel too much or go completely crazy against canute was because he married the previous kings wife and had children with her, ontop of that he didnt immediately kill her children by the previous king (he may have killed one or had one killed later on).
