I’m anime only, so I could be wrong, but I think probably Ah Duo, the emperor, and his mother were in on the swap (if it happened) and just gave young Jinshi the wrong idea (or the right one really) about his parentage- he did think that Anshi (the emperor’s mother) was his mother in the flashback (he referred to her as such) and it seemed like he had never or rarely interacted with the previous emperor (the old man), if you remember, he was the one who initially had a 9 year old Lishu as a concubine just 6 or so years ago (just before he died), so he was known as a pedophile, so I presume that Anshi kept him away from his “father” as much as she could help. Hopefully I haven’t said too much, things will become clearer in later episodes
