To try and clear some things up - Shenmei's wish was to shed the blood of the royal family, but Loulan/Shisui (I like calling her Shisui) couldn't bring herself to actually kill him, so she cut him instead. Basen was the one who was punched by the other guards, because he let the prince get hurt. I don't know if I or anyone else mentioned this before but Shishou is called the Prime Minister in the light novels; in the anime they just call him a high ranking official. The other shi clan members in the fox village, the summer resort place, and any other properties owned by them, were all executed for rebellion. It's implied that Shisui, Suirei, Shishou and probably some other unnamed people separated all the good apples and bad apples over the years; kicking the good ones out so they are free from this punishment. (not to be confused with the ones who have previously died and are given a second chance) When they say nation, everything is part of the fictional 'not China' country of Li - the special envoys are from a different country/nation (perhaps 'not Turkey' since they speak Turkish in the moon fairy episode)

2025-07-29 20:46:30 +0000 UTCBasen did get punished- it was apparently like a high crime to injure someone royal in any way, and I think Basen was the one that was held the most responsible for not keeping Jinshi safe- and from what I’ve heard, in the light novel his punishment was actually a lot more severe than what we saw in this episode (getting punched by Gaoshun). Also, I could be wrong with my interpretation, but I think that Loulan did that to Jinshi to essentially seal her fate (I mean, she knew she was probably dying anyway, might as well go all out though I guess)- Suirei knew that too, that’s why she was upset/crying as soon as Loulan did that and started her dance
