Shisui literally went to 'not Japan' to become Tamamo no Mae. In the light novels, she says she's going to the island nation to the west, which would be Japan... or whatever it's called in that universe. (like how China is called Li) Tamamo no Mae has a lot of mythology in feudal Japan. The author is also writing a short story now about Xiolan and her point of view of what happened in this story and her life after she left the palace. It's a short, spin off short story that will hopefully get animated as like 3 or 4 episode OVA one day to put between seasons since season 3 was confirmed. But we'll see if that ever comes to be. Xiolan and Shisui became way more popular than the author was expecting. lol I'd love a short series following Shisui in Japan as Tamamo no Mae and what stuff she gets up to, since there's a lot of reference material for that folktale itself, and she's a great character.

2025-08-05 23:05:47 +0000 UTCWhat got Maomao speculating about the swap was a combination of seeing Ah Duo and Jinshi face to face as she was leaving the rear palace, and Maomao thinking they could swap clothes (getting the word “swap” in her mind) plus remembering her conversation with Ah Duo the night before where she said her son “left her,” instead of saying he died. But yes, she didn’t have Jinshi in mind while she was speculating
