2x7 REACTION!! - The Sandman

I think God or as they call it the Creator, Time and Night are all equal beings. I don't remember it ever being explained in the books, but Time and Night gave the possibility or parameters for the universe to exist....and the Creator ...created everything within those universes...but the Endless are beings that serve the purposes of facilitating their function for all living creatures in all universes. I think Time sees his children as a means to an end....they needed their children to serve the purposes of Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delight/ Delirium. He has no love for them, but sees a purpose to their function. As with Night, she also has no love for her children except for what they can provide to her, almost like entertainment. Morpheus is the only one that truly exhibited love for his child...and as Night said, he tried time and again to have a loving relationship and that he always wanted a relationship. I think for Dream deep down he never really enjoyed life as an Endless, he craved for more, he wanted a family....and he "found family" with Lucienne, Merv, Fiddler's Green & Matthew....he found friendship with Hob, he found love with Nada and Calliope and even had a child. It seems to me that prior to Morpheus, not one of the Endless had any love for their children (the comics suggest that many of the Endless had children that they didn't really associate with)...which seems to already show that Dream was different from his siblings. He was the "black sheep," and I think perhaps no one in his family knew what to make of him. If you think about it, Desire who fathered a child with Unity and has progeny does not show any love for them...they were willing to have Dream kill Rose so the Kindly Ones would kill Dream for them. Fathering a child was all a means to an end, much like Time and Night. I think Morpheus' whole arc is to show that an Endless can change or become self-aware...unlike what is told to them...they are allowed to change and grow...and as Destruction already learned, Love is the way to do that. Now I think just abandoning your realm and your function for humanity is probably not the wisest course of action that Destruction could have taken, but I think it is helping Dream see that just living the status-quo is meaningless. Also bear with me...this could get a bit heady and long, but since this show is about "concepts" I think ruminating on themes is warranted! haha....so.... I think that the point of having a "family aspect" with Time/Night being Father/Mother and the Endless being children/ siblings is because together they represent the concept of unconditional love. To me, every facet of the Endless siblings represents an aspect of that love (destiny representing a beings past/present/future, death representing the lifespan of a being, dream representing the creation of a life wanted, destruction representing the changing nature of a being, Desire representing the wants and needs of a being, Despair representing pain and grief but also hope that one can get better, and then Delirium representing reality and madness)....therefore, each one of the siblings to me represents an aspect of love either for oneself or for the love for others. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, but I see the siblings and their dysfunction or brokenness as a family stemming from lack of love from their parents. Since the siblings represent love as a whole, each sibling is lacking in truly finding or understanding love...hence what Nada said when she thought that the Endless were incapable of love - they are always bickering and distant with each other...however, what Dream is exhibiting is self-actualization...he is beginning to embody all aspects of love - not just Dream. Remember in season 1 when Dream said that his siblings had their own realms and they aren't meant to meddle in each other's affairs and no one came to his aid when he was imprisoned due to this....however, since his imprisonment...Dream has visited each of his siblings and spent time with them and was influenced by them as well as by humanity, which to me is showing that Morpheus is growing beyond his sole function and his purpose of Dream, becoming more than what he was expected to be...and that is all reflected in his selfless act of killing his son, but also refusing his Mother's gift of basically running away and creating a new Dreaming and leaving all those in his realm and humanity to suffer his absence once again. I'm not saying that Dream's function isn't needed but I think Morpheus's growth as an Endless will eventually change everything - the future of humanity, the relationships between the siblings/ family.... essentially...if Dream changes for the better, the siblings and humanity can be closer to self-actualizing love and making the universe a better place. Ok, wow....I just went super hippie and want to vomit. haha sorry for the novel of a comment, taking an edible before watching your reactions then commenting has been an interesting experience for sure! haha
