2x10 REACTION!! - The Sandman

Comments

Time and Night were the ones that created the law for The Endless, not the Kindly Ones. That's why Dream went to them for help, but they refused to help him...mainly because they cared more about their order and function than they did about their son. They have no compassion, unlike Dream who has learned compassion and empathy. I also understand being upset with Morpheus' death, but you need to look at it more like a reincarnation. The Morpheus version of Dream is dead, but Dream is Endless....him as a concept can never die until humanity and other creatures don't need to dream anymore. He pretty much sacrificed himself to keep The Dreaming safe because The kindly ones would never stop coming after him or his realm...they just used Lyta to destroy his realm and creations to hurt Dream and drive him to die because any harm to The Dreaming literally hurts...so he had to sacrifice himself. And if it wasn't Lyta they used, it would be someone else, which Morpheus didn't want someone else to be harmed by their control. Morpheus's change began when he was imprisoned....but because he changed and became more empathetic he couldn't fulfill his function anymore...also the death of his son weighed so heavily on him....the Dreaming in essence became a cage for him, the only way Morpheus knew how to be Dream was to be cold and non emotional but he could no longer be that anymore because he allowed himself to change, but chsnge for an Endlessis rare. Look at all his siblings...not one of them changed...if they did they would be there to help him or they would have killed Orpheus for him....but they didn't. Only Destruction has changed...his decision to leave was a change but his leaving allowed for harm to come to his realm, which is something Dream could never let happen, so Dream knew he had to die to let a new Dream take his place to protect his realm. ...so his death in turn allows for Daniel to become the new version of Dream, a Dream who takes all of the lessons that Morpheus learned and can use to make better stories for the dreamers to help humanity in a new way. Morpheus was stuck for eons doing the "status quo" because he had to, but he felt imprisoned by that function, even in the first season when he got out of the glass cage he was saying things felt different that he wanted more out of life than just being the Dream King...and through his sacrifice of his Morpheus version of himself he could be more through the Daniel version of himself. Doesn't mean I don't miss Morpheus....the actor Tom Sturridge was just incredible to watch! His portrayal of Dream was awesome. So it's ok to be upset and pissed ...we grew attached to Morpehus and it is seeing our favorite character die for shitty reasons, plus the Kindly Ones and Lyta were assholes about it and it wasn't fair at all but then again this whole show has time and again stated that life isn't fair. The whole show is about Morpheus and him learning and growing to be a better person, and he did that...his knowing sacrifice of his life to put his son out of his misery and to keep those he loves safe from harm is the full evolution of him...previously he put his lover in Hell for 10,000 years and coldly abandoned his son...this is not the same Dream....so he evolved. Hopefully into a more humane version of Dream, one that leads with empathy and collaboration instead of the cold, dictatorial approach he used before! Hope this helps you get through your anger at Morpheus dying. I originally hated it too...even in the comics I felt that it was bullshit...but once I had time to process it and really understand why this was the only good outcome for Dream's character, I ended up loving how it all ended.
