Nerd³ made a Simpsons Tapped Out glitches slideshow

Awww here it goes.
Two weeks into my break I decided to start plotting my return. I wanted to make a statement of intent that I'm done trying to appease advertisers and I wanted something darker and more twisted than you'll see on other gaming channels. On top of that I wanted to take every piece of branding I have and set it on fire. Goodbye logo, theme, end screens, everything. A new era forged from the fires of the old.
So how do I manage that? Many ideas were planned and scrapped until I thought, "why not make it boring?" Why not make a video that's topic is boring, that features content that's boring and that I'm even bored making in the video... and then throw it weird. Build up the return, be boring and use that disappointment to lure people into an uncomfortable trap. How would that come out? Turns out, it comes out really fucking uncomfortable. :D
Some people won't like it, but that's OK. Actually, that's the point. Some people come to YouTubers for comfort, for faux companionship. They come to my content because they always have. I'm not entertainment, I'm routine. That's the bond I intend to annihilate over the coming months. I want you to come to me because you don't know what to expect. I want you to come to me to be uncomfortable.
Anyway, enough of me, let's talk about this right here! I seriously want to hear what you think of this. Also I'll be streaming a short while after this goes up so head on over to twitch for that.
- Dan
PS. Next week, I build a lovely town in VR.
It's been almost a week. It's still monetised. You failed Dan. You need to go more f*** up!

I'm enjoying the change in the direction you are taking and think the uncomftable atmosphere realy works.

I love the video dude. The ending music is something else along with the rock and Marty quote I expect that to be changing every video(the music that is.) glad to have you back I’ve been running out of videos from my favourite YouTuber and now the videos are better.
2017-09-19 14:54:38 +0000 UTC
Creators making videos because they want to make videos. People watching videos because they want to watch the videos. This is what YouTube was, that is what it was for. But it slowly turned into a monetized piece of shit full of comentaries, vlogs, and reaction videos.
I'll be honest Dan, I never came to you for comfort, I came to you because your videos are funny as shit. But when YouTube ramped up the monetization so did you (at no fault to you) and I kind of stopped watching. Every now and than a plays video would crack me up but it wasn't the Minecraft buildy thingy I fell in love with you for.
This video though, this video changes everything. Some people thought it was too much, some people didn't like the uncomfortableness, but that uncomfortableness is precisely what I started watching for. I kept watching, waiting for it to come back. I was right to wait. YouTube can't keep us down. Creativity will prevail.
Also I'm upping the amount I donate each month. ;)
2017-09-18 17:27:30 +0000 UTC
So I really can't say from this first video (of the 3rd era? A s03e01?;) ) are you loosing your sh*t or just trying to make us believe that, but in truth have a master plan for the future. I'm hoping for the latter:)
I'm watching your videos now and then for a few years now, and I would like to continue to do that, but hearing what youtube is doing with the monetization i realize people start to look for some other source of income and that's a bummer. I hope that finances are not the sole reason for the big change.
Anyways, about the video. It was ok (I probably did not get the full joke :( ). I felt like the "growing madness" was a bit forced. An earrape warning would be nice (an icon in the corner maybe). What bugged me the most was the poor variety of the swearing. As I'm thinking of it now i would appreciate a lot more a kind of "Matrix Reloaded - Merovingian French Cursing" stuff. In English of course.
Anyways, can't wait to see more of your stuff.
Cheers.

Personally, I think this is one of the best youtube videos I've seen for a long time. Despite (or perhaps because of?) the discomfort, I found parts of the video genuinely funny - funnier even than the Wrestling Revolution video.
I also think that use of the quote from Rick and Morty at the end, "Welcome to the darkest year of our adventures" was very appropriate, as I feel the latest season of Rick and Morty has been the same - uncomfortable, and yet in some ways funnier than anything that's come before. I am completely onboard with this and can't wait to see what comes next!
2017-09-18 14:34:46 +0000 UTC
Fuck routine but I'd rather be surprised by each video than systematically made uncomfortable (slight nuance, there), lest this turns into the how to basic of video gaming...

I think too many creators rely on the routine thing from their viewers. You know the ones tuning in, leaving the video droning on in the background and not paying attention. I really appreciate the effort of making something to break that routine. And I liked the protest. Youtube can go fuck itself

Sounds like a weird, boring and some times special type fun. I'M ALL IN! i just hope you don't go too far and go all salad fingers on us. but in the end it's all up to you. as they say in weird and old cartoons "the most important thing is to have fun".

2017-09-18 05:26:44 +0000 UTC
Ok, you're doing this to go against the mainstream (at least I think that's why) buuuutttttt for me it's going to need to be more than this. Didn't really see it as dark, didn't exactly make me uncomfortable, was just a rather empty 10 minutes. Anyway, I'll wait and see what else comes.
I will admit, however, that if we're all about burning the ad friendly culture then I'm all in. I would just say that I think it's important to keep the material full of substance while doing so.

I think you succeeded in what you set out to do and delivered exactly what you said you would. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the ride you want to take us on. There were bits to this video that alluded to your excitement for what you're doing now and I find that terribly exciting. It's an excellent and very welcome return.

Holy shit, that was fantastic! This is amazing! Yes, I am allowed to celebrate ads.

I love it. This is the best your channel has ever been. It seems you're trying to wean your audience down to the most abnormal, rebellious, unstable, and weird audience group possible. So I have to ask; are you planning on building a colony ship? If it includes dogs, I'm in.

I loved experiencing it, the first time. Weird and you, in the best way. The second time though, I thought about it. Your edited videos have always been deliberately crafted for a purpose and effect, and I will always very much appreciate that, but this one... The time you took to decide EXACTLY what you wanted to do with it was all over it. I love that. I love that I can just take a "gaming" video in, and also then want to examine it. I'm so glad we can help you get to this point. Can't wait to see what you do going forward.

It's alright. It's nice to see videos again, but it seemed too dark and edgy. I think that recording IRL things should be left to bits like the one in John Wick VR. There's definitely room for improvement here.
2017-09-17 00:14:16 +0000 UTC
Good stuff. I'm ashamed to say one of the devs is a frequent customer at my shop. He's gonna get a kick out of this.
2017-09-17 00:13:30 +0000 UTC
I think I get what you're trying to do. You're trying to break the barrier. You're trying to be clever and twist things and make them interesting whilst keeping the audience on their toes.
Coming up to this reboot, I was pumped. You said you'd destroy your channel and after seeing some spectacularly edited videos of yours in the past, I knew how good you were and how creative you can be. In fact, all I've seen is what you have put out, I haven't seen those scripts you've written for Doctor Who or any of your other material, but your history, style and the fact that you were discarding all connections to the past and wanting to go out with a bang by doing the most creative, weird shit possible.
I was looking forward to that. What you produced as an opener, was 45 seconds of genuine interesting film, followed by 7 minutes and 15 seconds of boring, mundane shit, followed by a quick build up to the scream, then an outro and a 20 second flash back to the interesting film.
That 7 minutes and 15 seconds added nothing, it wasn't even a prop. Hell, you could have just inserted the last build up to the scream and it would have given the same effect of weird and uncomfortable.
What I feel you've tried to do is go: "What doesn't anyone do?...Well, no one does anything boring. So I'll do boring!" and used that usage of 'boring' to make something interesting.
Personally, I don't think it worked or paid off.
As I said in my original comment, it tends to lead to boring and uninteresting, and that's exactly what I think this video did.
What you've effectively made is a video that a boring channel, just starting up, would make. The only difference is, people know who you are and recognise that this is different from what you normally do. You've created an impact and a difference in what we'll see from you, and that gets people talking, arguing, complain and drives talk about you. You've successfully grabbed people's attention, but in doing so, you've also set the bar low for the type of "different" content you make.
My only hope is that what comes out will improve in creativity, writing and the amount of effort you put into these videos, because right now, my friend Steven makes more interesting, "different", creative gaming-related content than you have in this video.

Nah far too edgy for my tastes. Art imitating life imitating youtube imitating a dark weird European film that's on at 3 am on channel 4 that you switched over to and missed the first 40 minutes of but god damn it you'll figure out what that story was about if it kills you! You said Cunt a lot Daniel. I'm even more excited to see what happens next, much like the European films sequel that I bought of Amazon for 30 quid cos its super rare because nobody gets it.

Regarding the video, I laughed at the intro. Then the laugh faded into an uncertain smile throughout the video. Then I thought. "This isn't actually very good" "I don't even really want to keep watching this". I kept watching. It didn't get any better. Then I laughed again at the outro. Uncomfortable is definitely the right word 10/10

I feel like you perfectly achieved your goal of being a bit weird, and I also like the idea that the people who were super resistant to change will fuck off before next week's video, decrying your channel as dead and you as a moron. Meanwhile, those of us who know that whatever you do is for a reason and believe in the changes will be able to tell them next week HOLY SHIT, That video was brilliance, best of the channel's history, and they all either realize they were wrong or piss off and never come back, leaving the positive people around.

I haven't got anything particularly new to say, I liked it. I think this is a really interesting way to go. I will say though, some of the audience reaction (and your statement of intent, to some extent) reminded of this article: <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/comedy/10437964/Why-I-walked-out-of-a-Stewart-Lee-gig.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/comedy/10437964/Why-I-walked-out-of-a-Stewart-Lee-gig.html</a> (I'm a huge Stewart Lee fan by the way)

The ending was completely what I needed. It showed exactly the opposite of what Youtube is, but instead what it used to be, which is weird, slightly useless but entertaining videos.

Sorry, but I didn't find it entertaining, at all. I support the change that you want to make, go all weird and ad unfriendly. But it wasn't... entertaining. I'm not gonna stop watching your content, by any means. Disliking one video doesn't mean that I'll hate the following content. For what I read about what the video, you achieved your objective. But still... being entertaining should be a priority.
2017-09-16 21:03:51 +0000 UTC
I'm shocked. That's exactly what I thought, that's exactly what you did, that's exactly what you /were/ to me. Truthfully, though, I get into routines and I get out of them. I get bored of them eventually- maybe that's why I've been watching you for so long- 4-5 years. Most of my interests have lasted a year at most, for perspective.
That video came across exactly how you wanted it to- this whole post has left me feeling personally attacked. I'm not giving you what you want from this! I'm gonna do my best to feel as comfortable as possible in your videos now, out of spite!

I feel like the game had to be a prop in this one, that's why I went for such a terrible, throwaway game. I needed you to think "is this it?" mid-way through to ramp it up to the weird levels I wanted. It had to be a game I didn't like so you'd expect critique that never came. This episode was basically just an endless succession of rug-pulls. :D

You went boring and dark? There's a reason people don't do that: because it's boring and uninteresting. If you wanted weird and uncomfortable, be more creative about it. I'm still going to watch as I'm curious to see what you're going to do, but you should have been more creative. I like the intro and outro though (the bits where you're on the phone), that was creative.

Dan, you hit the nail on the head with this post. I spent today refreshing my sub box to see this new video. Honestly I was pretty hyped. Hopes high.
The first few minutes I just felt happy to see a video back from you. Next few minutes I started to feel bored and began to wonder "what's the point of this video? Is there going to be a punchline at the end of this, or is the point that there is no point?" Finally I started to feel uncomfortable, the peak of that is when my uncle walked in to ask me a question right as you showed the severed legs and heads of sprites in a field, and I suddenly felt embarrassed by what I was watching and tried to explain.
You hit all the notes in this video. I loved the "I don't give a shit" attitude, and the gratuitous language.
You've got me genuinely wondering where this rollercoaster is headed. I have other youtubers for the "Faux companionship" you described, you're doing something I'm equally scared and excited for. Something I haven't seen another youtuber do! Something that can't be possible without a platform like youtube mixed with Patreon.
Excited for next week.
2017-09-16 20:59:37 +0000 UTC
I'm going to be brutally honest here: I don't think this video achieved what you wanted it to. Was it bizarre? Kinda. But there's the good kind of bizarre you see in absurdist humour, and then there's just random for the sake of it. It didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all, and I'm willing to bet it didn't really make many others uncomfortable either. They could tell that's the reaction you wanted, so that's what they gave you.
2017-09-16 20:59:04 +0000 UTC
(Copied from my comment in the community tab) Absolutely fantastic. I was wondering where it was going, but it crescendo-ed perfectly and I was laughing my ass off by the time the punchline came around.

Honestly, I really like the idea, and the video is even better after reading the thoughts behind it! I wouldn't say I loved it, but it was really good, and I think this is one of those ideas that could honestly develop into something very new and very, very interesting. I think my only problem with this video was that it was very... static, I guess. I think because of this, the slow descent into madness felt a little forced and not actually "slow", because we were literally seeing each step in the form of a slideshow. I really dug the idea tho, and the live action parts were superb! I'm super interested in what you're doing, and fuck me, am I excited to see where this strange strange new channel is headed :) Keep it up Dan

I find that you perfectly achieved that goal you set for yourself. With that said and as a patreon from the very start I have to say this: The video I watched while not standard nerdcubed material was good but forgetable, I fear that setting forth for greater endeavors outside the platform of youtube will cause a lot of people to lose interest if the main content ceases to inspire interest and knowing that many patreons support you for the youtube content I also fear that we may see a decline in patreon support. I 'll let mine active for now waiting to see what comes next but as I cannot due to obligations watch livestreams and having not seen other type of media, be it a book, film, game etc to know if I am interested in that side of nerdcubed I advise that you tread carefully and not take patreon support for granted. Waiting with my breath held for the next video and the game we 've been waiting for so long. Toodles!

Change your patreon to "Nerdcubed is creating the video equivalent of a mental breakdown."
Okay, first video watched. Some good, some bad.
1) I love the new branding, music, logo, fade out at the end, etc. looks gorgeous, fuck those people who don't know how to enjoy neat design.
2) The start (up to the start of the slide show) and the last end bit were amazing, hoping to see a lot of that from now on.
3) the middle bit... I get the message the add unfriendliness, the swearing, the mbreakdown... But I thought that it missed a point, and it felt a little bit like one of YAthzee low energy stream/talk (like the drown outs, but without Gabe(so, without soul)) I get it, but I don't think that it was entertaining. interesting : Yes, Untertaining, not really... I'd have loved something... "Higher quality" I guess ? A more energetic start, with smother transoition between screen and proffesional highlight of dumb mobile phone game, that descent into a swqearing rampage ? Rather than a slow start that just fizzles out 'till the swearing fuckfest ?
All in all, great video, love the title, love the uniqueness, but Something more entertaining, and maybe with an idea behind it ? (like, The game was just a prop, it wasn't the subject, you didn't critisize the game, you just used it for the breakdown) a critique oer a reflection on youtube/gaming ? Rather than just a sort of "parody" of the worst content possible for youtube ?
I'm not sure if I'm clear... But in any case, I'm glad to be here to witness you destroy your channel.
(ps: post your videos on Vid.me or something else. screw youtube, take TB, Wheezy, MATN, Jim, All the "middle" big one and drag your subs along, youtube is a burning pile of shit and nothing keeps the youtubers there anymore)
