Hello. Here's the first video of the Reboot.

Well, it's that time again. Watch the video first, then come and read about it.

So, I got it in my head again that I needed a bit of a reboot. I love rebooting the channel as it lets me throw everything away and start again, working out what I want to do from scratch. It stops me getting bored, keeps the content tight and absolutely destroys any chance I have of getting on the good side of the algorithm.

This time however, things are different. Over the past six months I've handed over a lot of control of the channel to Matt, from editing to thumbnails, and sort of forgot about it for a while. Life and other work kept me busy and YouTube became an afterthought. I spend a day a week recording stuff, then it's gone. I wasn't even watching the final videos once I was confident that matt had kept the quality up.

So with this reboot, I wanted to get back into actually putting effort in. The thing is though, I didn't want to put effort into the same things. I've been playing games the same way for eight years and thousands of videos, maybe it's time to change everything?

So, Matt and I workshopped some ideas. I really liked the idea of short, bite size recommends videos, using the short run time to drag in people who wouldn't normally click on an unknown game. This would let us push tiny indies with the same power as the big AAA boys. (The current plan is that Ep 2 will be 'Baba is You') The downside was that this comes at a cost. Current numbers show that a sub ten minute video earns 60% less ad revenue. After much discussion, we basically said fuck it. We'll do it anyway.

Now, here's where the biggest change happens. I wrote that video. Wrote it. Words and full stops and one badly used semicolon and everything. I couldn't ad-lib a video with the required info and keep it that short, let alone put jokes in. Most impressions videos on the internet go on for ages and the run time to information ratio is dreadful. I wanted to fix that. I wanted to make dense videos, instead of just looking dense in videos.

So I wrote it over a day, edited my audio the next. Matt sourced the footage and edited the video and, after a few days, we'd made a video seven times shorter than normal that took five times longer to make. We'll probably get faster.

You know what though? I fucking love it. It's the same, but different. The first few tries didn't work. The script wasn't right or my voice was flat. But after a while, we made something I'm super happy with. I'm super interested to hear your thoughts on it. This video will be taken down in a few days and a slightly more polished one will go up so if you've got something to say then now's the time! You're funding this shit more than ever!

What else is happening with the reboot? A few things. Saturday fun times will stay, only this time they'll be either collabs or the mad shit I started the last reboot off with. Collabs are basically just plays videos where I have new things to be funny with and the mad shit... well, that'll turn up. Probably. Honestly, we're not 100% on everything right now. This is more of an early access reboot. Stuff will appear when it's ready to. Again, probably.

Anyway, that's enough from me! Get down into those comments and tell me what's what. If you all hate it then it's going in the bin and we'll start again. If you all love it, then I'll blame you when the general YouTube audience complain that it's too short. :p

- Dan

PS. Oh, ignore the reboot video. It's... well... you'll see...

PPS. Oh, Ignore that logo I tweeted as well. We do like to fuck with Twitter. :D

Hello. Here's the first video of the Reboot.

Comments

Great style, incredibly funny, very cool

Absolutely loved it, I've missed your scripted jokes and you can even tell in your voice that you are enjoying it more. Looking forward to see what you do with indie games as you are one of the main ways i find new and interesting games.

It was probably removed when it moved to the channel.

Dan! I just came back to say that the version you just uploaded was PERFECT! You sounded so much more relaxed and comfortable but were still punchy and I feel like the jokes landed a lot better in the final cut. 10/10 IGN, would watch again.

LukeSeawalker

I can't watch the video, it says it has been removed :/

Linus Närkling

Anything that you enjoy making is content worth watching. You'll put more effort into it knowing that you enjoy it.

Very nice video dense of informaton. You really cant click away while you watch it. I guess thats a pretty good accomplishment! Nice work.

This is witty and beautiful. From your newest Patron*, keep it up. *Newest as of time of submission. May not be newest at time of reading. None of this is legally binding anyways because I'm a fox head lost in a sea of blue.

WS

Super excited for more mad shit on the channel, loved the last reboot and the plays videos recently have been a bit lackluster. This reboot video was aces though and the future is looking bright.

Similar to the other comments, I enjoyed it but I found it a little bit too fast and short. The format works but some of the information came a little bit too fast so that either I missed punchlines or forgot the information because I was already listening to the next bit. I agree with the other comments that if this was to be made to be 3-4 minutes instead then it would work a bit better.

C.A.T.S is a real series, he talked about that in his podcast last week

Please let C.A.T.S be a real series. I love the Dan and Jon dynamic, especially if Matt joins in.

Jack Stratton

I love this! As a review video it is perfect, it's quick, funny, informative and made me want to buy the game. It kind of reminds me of some of the earlier stuff you did, like the three free games series, but an upgraded more comical version and I love that. PS. I did not ignore the reboot video and I'm glad I didn't because that is pure comedy gold and I love you for making that!

Mimi

Just watched the youtube Reboot video. Fuck I love you, Dan!!!!

Woodchip NZ

Excellent! Funniest you've been in years but you should give the jokes a little bit more time to sit with the audience.

Jesus Christ, now I'm not even sure if this is real

Brian

This seems like a really good format. yes your slower pace is nice but this is quirky and a bit more alive it seems :)

Karl Blythe

Oh the reboot video 😂😂😂😂

Siana Brooker

I quite liked the video, but I have a few points of (constructive?) criticism: 1) Whatever you enjoy making is the best thing for you to make. Anything else I say is only MY opinion and should be weighted accordingly 2) For what it is, I think this is a little too short. Maybe more like 5 minutes? 3) The editing and visuals are competent, but unimaginative. They don't detract from the video but they also don't add as much as they could. 4) I don't think I like this short format from you. I like your longer videos with slower pacing, where I feel your particular comedy works especially well.

Septimus ii

Dan if you don't do a sequel to Mindshow I'm unPatreoning (is that the right word?)

Narmatonia

I think most have already covered it, but basically - the scripting is good, visually its interesting - but i think the pacing is a little too fast. The speed that you jump from point to point, does not leave you with any time to digest what just happened - for me it makes some of the punchlines a little flat because you are distracted from enjoying them fully by the next thing already happening I think most of the comments are right, made a little longer you could give some of them the time to breathe that they deserve - but overall it is a very good direction to go in

Some of it's from streams, most of it is recorded though. Just took ages because it's such a big game and has no cheats, and a lot of stuff happens by chance.

Mattophobia

As a note with footage: Most of the footage in the video is recored by me with the script next to me, along with the actual audio for timing. Some of the footage is pulled from Dan's streams, but most of it was purpose shot by me over a good portion of a day.

Mattophobia

I loved it, though I do agree with a lot of the other comments. If you could hit the three minute mark, I think that would be the sweet spot.

Absolutely fantastic! I'd like it if maybe they could be a bit longer, maybe 3 minutes?

Artemis Potter

I loved it. I'll miss your longer videos, but you're definitely on to something about the jokes always being the same style. Do what you love, Dan.

meh.

I really enjoy the very scripted and edited videos. They're just my favourite form of content from Nerdcubed. And I think you can still have those 'oh no I fell off a mountain' moments, just edited in, ykno.

Ruth

I think maybe it'd work slightly longer, but it's very funny and entertaining and now I actually want to play an Assassin's Creed game as a result. Win?

Casey Holloway

The video felt more like an application entry to a position at IGN, half expecting you to give it a 9.5/10. I don't know. I like the idea, but this particular execution feels almost like an advert. I'm not sure what feedback I can give regarding changes that can be made to make it less corporate feeling. I'll need to see a bunch of them before I can get a proper feel for them. This might be more because I was a fan of the soapbox style videos. I'm sure I will grow to very much enjoy them.

Sandwich247

I feel like possibly it ended a little suddenly. Maybe more of a wrap up type of ending

Matthew Robertson

I very much like it, nicely packed with information. No dull moment, but still gives all of the information I want. I agree wholeheartedly that it is like Zero Punctuation with a Nerd3 twist.

maybe having it a touch longer wouldn’t hurt? but i love the style, i see the upisnotjump thing here

PLEASE play through “Stunt Island!” I’m begging you. I’m on both knees and it’s a tile floor here.

WC the Comedian

Awesome video but giving comments in reference to a previous game is not useful for somebody who doesn't know anything about such games. Also, if you do reference, mention what exact game you are referencing; that would make it easier for somebody to find out about that game.

Alex Myagkov

I like it, it's kind of like "Zero Punctuation" but with that Dan Hardcastle twist. Beautiful.

Razz Dazzle

As everyone else here I liked it a lot. I love your humour and a quick burst of it like this makes it extra fun. My only worry is that preplanned scripted videos like this lose an aspect of the unpredictability of these games that you have always been able to respond so hilariously to. Maybe if possible try adding in tiny cuts of the funniest moments on streams and such or at least making sure to keep another series for that. I think a lot of us watch you to see how you play games and not necessarily to review them. But for what you intended for this video this is perfect. The timing was on point resulting in a constant stream of laughs (or nose exhaling if in earphones) from me. I loved it

William Newing

I very much enjoyed it, but feel like it's too short. Maybe try to hit 5 minutes? You don't want it too long but I feel like you blink and then it's over.

Chris Ivison

I love the style of video, very much like zero punctuation or upisnotjump, I just would really like a longer form video that is still you fukin around with games improv style. <3

Alex Garton-Hill

I wasn't sure what to expect but this is really really good. I will be sad to see shorter content from you but I feel like Saturday videos will be my faves. The Quick series reminds me a bit of Honest Trailers for some reason as well, and those are fun to just kinda sit down and watch for a few minutes before fucking off elsewhere. I'm excited to see what you do!

I liked it a lot, the felt a little quiet at times and I felt like I was expecting some in-game sounds. Other than that it was great! I'd describe it as Nerd is not Yahtzee :)

I really do like what you have done with the script and jokes. Actually made me genuinely laugh instead of a slight breath out my nose. Just maybe make them a few seconds longer. It feels like you are rushing your words. I can’t say I won’t miss your longer drawn out videos but if this is the direction you are wanting to bring the channel then go right ahead, I will watch and love them nonetheless. I’m very excited and happy for you! Keep doing the great work!

I love it. The visuals complement the audio so well I had to watch it again because I wasn't focusing the first time and was kicking myself the whole time for being so stupid. You packed a bunch of information into a tiny space but were still clear and comprehensible. You sound more interested than ever which is expected immediately after a reboot but I always love it and it gets me so excited for what's to come. Keep it up!

Eli Brand

It's good, though I can see how it might be polarising (especially if it went without a reboot video to explain what's going on) but I personally like the scripting. I feel it could be fun to experiment with this, especially if multiple games got covered on occasion (like the old three free game Fridays), but with a script that flows between them (maybe with purposefully bad segues) and relates them, which compliments the shorter format. While I'm sure you'll keep coming up with good jokes, the only real problem I see is if the script or delivery feel forced or stale. But you probably thought if all this already. Either way, looking forward to the Baba Is You video!

Babel

Can the first new weird Saturday video start with a couple of seconds of footage of the telephone ringing, Just a wee nod to the audience as to what to expect

Daniel Marshall

I like it a lot, I'm just noticing that this style gets quite stressfull

I very much like it, as long as there's still some form of longer content still on the channel as well which it sounds like it is! I love the pacing and feel of the short, kinda choppy info-blasts.

Peter Carr

I rather like it. I feel it might be best if these videos are followed later by a stream of the featured game for those who's attention gets caught.

RaptorBricks

It feels like Zero Punctuation with punctuation and in game footage and I do like it. What I wouldn't like would be if this would be the main event on your channel. This feels more like a let's break down a game quickly type of thing while I would actually prefer a longer video to actually show off why the new indie game is so great. So we on our part can go buy the shit out of that.

Tailmartian

It’s weird enjoying less nerdcubed, but I dig it. Essentially cutting down makes these way easier to watch, and it’s still all of your great comedy. Good to hear the mad shit is coming back. It was my favorite part of the last reboot and I always wanted more.

It reminds me a bit of Zero Punctuation, but it's shorter and denser. I think it's good, sure it's short, but if the Saturday videos are still coming with sort of "normal" length, then imo the reboot will turn out great. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the fast speaking, like you are in a real hurry, this felt a bit rushed´. Maybe a tad down on the speaking speed. :)

speedcoaster

Its great. I'd suggest making it 30 seconds longer so you can talk slightly slower and let the jokes land a little more. It can feel a little relentless. Personally I'll miss your long-form videos, but its your channel and I wouldn't want to detract from your creativity

Tom Spencer

*or streams where you actually make money. Overall, do what you love and most of the patreon community will follow the passion

Adam Bell

Nerdcubed = Yahtzee Crowshaw (sort off) Me = Love it Was like watching Zero punctuation with less yellow! I very much enjoyed this much faster style of video and since the longer stuff isn't going away completely (Mad Saturday stuff and longer collaborative stuff), I think everything will be absolutely tickety-boo and peachy.

I liked the dense quick cut nature of the video. It is shorter than I would probably like but I could see that you enjoyed it which is honestly what a lot of people like about your videos. So maybe consider a version which cuts to a bit more depth. For example with AC odyssey maybe you could have done another 30 seconds on combat and on story. Overall I like it and would have no issue with you heading more in this direction but it would be nice if you could get to 3 videos like this a week and maybe have a completes series in something you love like planet coaster.

Adam Bell

As much as I love finding a new brilliant game that comes with your recommendation, I never started watching your videos for bite-sized reviews or pros and cons lists with a few jokes dashed in there. It may have taken a lot longer, but personally, there was less of the content I enjoyed. Doesn't mean I enjoyed it less, just there was less of it, if that makes any sense... Guess I'm saying quantity over quantity? Of course, it's your channel not mine so you do you and it's good that you're constantly experimenting and trying new formulas, just don't think this one makes for new videos I'd prefer to watch over previously existing ones.

I enjoyed it overall and like the idea of a video that's more of a condense review. I haven't played AC Odyssey and this has instantly made me want it. However, it felt a little too quick, you need to talk slower Dan, there we plenty of jokes I liked but didn't feel like I had time to laugh at without feeling like I'd have to pause the video because you moved on without taking a breath it felt. Almost made me lose track of everything you said as well and might make me have to rewatch the whole video twice just to feel like I got everything. 7/10 overall, talk slower and remember to breath.

Honestly this feels weirdly like the old minecraft videos and I love that. Your tone of voice is very performance-y and it works really well with a shorter format. I’d still love to see let’s plays (even if they’re just stream archives edited down a little!) but I adore this format. It feels a bit like going back to your roots, only with better jokes and editing, and a far more unique concept.

I love it but its just really too short I think. Maybe I just love the 20/30 minuet videos where you mess around but this just felt a bit too quick. Maybe aim for like 3-5 minuets as a sweet spot between short and long enough for the people who like your videos.

jonathan steward

I think this style of videos are really cool and a nice bitesized way to break down what's out there on the market in a way I can digest. I hope this doesn't mean you're completely doing away with things like Plays and the Saturday madness stuff as I do enjoy the slower pace of them however whatever you're doing that you enjoy and want to make is down right cushty with me. You make good content no matter what the style or capacity. I just don't want to see a video in six months saying "Oh god I need a break before my nipples fall off" cause yknow, we're not worth that.

SheepFace2000

Ever thought about doing this for movies?

Matthew Robertson

Loved it! Wish it was maybe a bit longer but I do love the new style. I can tell you really are doing what you want and honestly thats what makes truly good content

Matthew Robertson

As a review, it definitely pulled me in with the quick, snappy lines and the information all up in ma face! I like the clever quick cuts and the pace was a tempo that I was just about hanging on to, I think any quicker and it would need to be rewatched to catch anything (unless thats your plan....). However, I do like your slower paced videos, where its a bit more gentle teacup ride but still enjoyable. So I feel that if you get that perfect theme park mix of "I've just had lunch, can we chill on the Ferris Wheel" to the "lets blast our balls off on the Death Coaster of DOOM" it will be spot on! Get people in with the showcase ride but don't neglect them when they are full of donuts!

Spuds

I'm of the firm belief that creators should create the things that make them happy and fuck whatever the audience says, because we're fickle and don't know what we want. That said, maybe a bit longer (around 3 mins) would help go in depth a bit more, because this one felt a bit rushed. On the other hand, maybe that's just because AC:O is such a large game, and smaller indie titles might fit the format better.

Jasmijn Wellner

Love the new ideas and direction! It sounds like a great blend of the writey stuff you do so well and still gives opportunity for the more random spontaneous jokes with someone to bounce off! Would a audio version be possible as I listen to podcasts in the car on the way to work and a quick short podcast would fit in great with my morning/evening playlists? Much love as always.

Maybe a bit too fast for my taste, but I like the direction this is going in

Love it's your best video yet in my opinion.

Rhio Hamilton

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjdQaSJCYS4o2eG93MvIwqg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjdQaSJCYS4o2eG93MvIwqg</a> (Kilian)

Ledder5

I like it and it was hilarious but i feel that it misses out what iv'e always loved about your content which is you doing crazy shit in video games. I can see that you're moving towards expressing creativity through writing but as others have said it can be a bit confusing visually and not as entertaining as you doing you shit in video games. I also think the game review format favours quipy jokes more than your'e usual visual and hearty humour. I would love to see you apply your amazing writing and crazy mind into something more story based like some of Killian's stuff. Having said that it was fucking halarious.

Ledder5

I personally love your longer, 20-ish minute edited videos where you pay a game for presumably hours and cut it down to 20 minutes of excellence. They give the feel of the game rather than just a review/summary of it. Having said that I think this new format is really original and stands up all on its own. I would like to see both continue, but that is probably a lot of work. Probably reusing gameplay footage, as you have here, but I would miss being able to come along with you while you play a game, but with the dead time cut out. Streams don't really work for my time zone, schedule, or attention. Hope the feedback helps! Do what makes you proud and happy!

Really liked it! An idea about the recent bump in views could be due to the fact that you’re playing brand new, story based games. I haven’t watched your red dead let’s play because I haven’t got red dead yet and don’t want spoilers. Similarly, I avoided your odyssey streams as I was behind you in the game going through it.

I really liked it! I would be sad if the longer less-but-still-quite-edited videos are gone, though. Those have always been my favorite part about your channel.

Ethan Myers

Love it, love the fast pace, rewatch ability is there and I can't wait to see you tackle indie games. This shorter style works much better for me because I don't have the time anymore to be watching more long form videos with lots of waffle.

deadduck456

Loved this! Don't mind the fast jokes, because the video was short I played it twice:)

Loved it! Though I would say it’s a little to fast! It’s hard to enjoy the jokes properly Since they come pretty thick and fast!! Great video though!

This reboot is a great video! Short, on the nose, penises! Video only lasts 2 minutes. Still longer than I can last. How long does it take a man to fall when being Sparta kicked? *Still Falling* ... Yeah about that long, and stealth missions?... nah fuck it, I'll just pay to speed up the game.

It was fantastic! Really enjoyed it and I find short videos are the first ones I'll watch when I get home from work and queue up a load of videos from people I've subscribed to that posted that day. I would say the footage shown is a bit too short, because the whole thing feels like a comedy stand-up where the video is adding to the punchline of what you're saying, rather than it being a video you come to watch. I know if you added more footage, you could take in the information a bit better, but then the pacing of the gags wouldn't work. Perhaps add some dramatic pauses at the odd point, before continuing on on an unrelated point. I mean a dramatic pause so that the viewers are left staring at a penis on a statue for a bit longer than is necessary or comfortable. Maybe a pause when that man is sparta kicked off the cliff, a nice pause as you look at his body. I can see it becoming repetitive and obviously scripted when you know there will be 1-3 pauses in your fast paced chatter but if the format works without feeling old too quickly, maybe those pauses will be something to look forward to (What funny thing will Dan make us stare at this week?), but I think it would allow a breather to take in the actual information, while also being hilarious bit of footage. Written rather more than I planned and went a bit rambly. Maybe I'll post this again but in an edited snappy style?

Love this style. Short, snappy, and to the point. Also, the video really benefits from being scripted. Jokes sound more funnier, too. Genuinely excited about this, looking forward to the collabs and the mad shit!

Purist

The visuals were a bit hard to follow, but the pacing of the script felt really nice. I love the idea of short and concise reviews. They can make you interested in a game so much more easily, ans also means you won’t ignore something just because the video’s too long. On the downside, I don’t think you can showcase the feel of the game too. At least that’s how this video felt, a good comment on the quality of the game, but not much more. Well, that and the scripted jokes, which were better on average than the ad-libbed ones. So yeah, I’m excited. Also, my favourite videos of yours are from your slow descent into madness the last reboot, so getting those as the occasional Saturday video along with collabs sounds great.

ICE Trance

Love it. Laughed very hard with the 'bisexual'-joke, because I didn't see that footage coming. Just a warning however: you are posting about games you know and saw. Be sure (most of) the jokes are visible because not every viewer knows the game as well as you do. In general: you are the makers of these videos. I support you because I love your sense of humor. If you have another idea of videos: the laughing stays the same. It's not that you are going to sing musical songs about your mother now, right?

I think it is good but a bit too short maby try 3-5 min mark

Reminds me of Charlie Brooker(a great thing)!

Simmonsdude

It is good! I personally love more information dense reviews and well, it doesn't get any denser than this!

Renzo Wijngaarden

It felt like a rapid roster rundown on a whole game, and who doesn't love a rapid roster rundown?

Your taking inspiration fron zero punctuation but actually making a detailed review. Im not dissing yatzee i like his style but this is an idea i can get behind 👍

Brad

I really loved it. I really liked the extra wittiness. I did think it was going on 2x speed when it was actually going at a normal pace, that works perfectly for me but I'm not sure about other people. I honestly cannot wait to see other videos in that style from you and especially look forwards to the indie titles and games that may have been passed over.

Love the new type of video! However i feel like i and other people will miss the dreadfully long vids :p maybe you could slightly up the channel where you or someone uploads the rewatchable twitch streams? That way the people that feel like a long talky nerdcubed session will have the information to do that. Sorry for the ramble :p TLDR: love it but can you advertise your twitch stream uploads on youtube more

This style of video reminds me of uniqenameosauras and Scott falco video’s, it might be worth checking them out to see how other people are doing the short dense video style, specifically Scott falco who’s red dead 2 video was only six minutes long

STILL A BRILLIANT NEW STYLE THOUGH AND A FRESH CHANGE OF PACE FOR YOU, SORRY I HIT ENTER TOO FAST AND IT POSTED XD

I really enjoyed it, it struck me as very much Zero-Punctuation-esque simile/allegory comedy, which is the best /obviously/, but i agree with some others here that the visuals need a bit more work to support that. Not to say they didn't do well as is, the in game visual gags of destroying the boat and statue penis worked great, but some of the other jokes fell a little flat because they went too quick without the proper visual impact they needed to land.

i loved it, however i would make it closer to 4-5 minutes instead of two, just to give it space and allow you to get better timing on all the jokes, this felt a little too fast paced but i think with some polishing it could be something great,

aidan booker

Personally I enjoyed it however the pacing felt too fast for me and also as someone who enjoys watching your content, I’d feel a little disappointed seeing such a short runtime as I enjoy losing myself in your videos. I do think that short quick Wright-esque comedy works and maybe it’s because it’s so different to what I come to the channel for, but is definitely something worth exploring more. One of my favourite videos to date is the heavily scripted Nerd3 Paradigm so I do think that quick bite sized jokes do and can work! I’d just like to see variation of content both in style and runtime. One of the issues you could face though with doing so many quick jokes is that the jokes could become lesser in comedy. I say this because if you imagine comedy (and writing through proxy) as vodka. You only need a small amount to enjoy it. If you do too much it could be too much of a good thing.

I loved it. However, I think it's important to mention I've watched your livestreams of this game so I've already seen a lot of it and it's easy to sort of relate. I don't know how it will be for a game I know nothing about. I think you'll get backlash for it but you'll probably get that regardless of the type of change. I'd say if this is what you'd like to make go for it!

Lisa Esselink

In my opinion the visuals could do with a bit of work. Your words are great because, well, they’re your words. But I’d like something with a bit more variety and effort on screen to be on par with the effort in the writing. Also two minutes may be a little too short

CaptainOfYourShip

I'm not gonna lie, the short-format comedy review game is a competitive one, and the established players in the field (Dunkey, Zero Punctuation, ...) have perfected their formulas to a tee, so you'll have a lot of catching up to do for "Nerd³ Quick" to be both on par with those in terms of production value and still have it feel unique.

elmagio

Uncertain - as an occasional one-off it'd be pretty neat, but if it's the notion running forward to treat all reviews like this then it could feel a little too short. I guess you've got other videos/channels going on so I wouldn't exactly ever be light on your content so this format wouldn't be too bad :)

IriidaV

maybe make the videos a bit longer, i love the idea tho. It reminds me a bit of zero punctuation which is always a good thing

Ben Frost

Love it love it love it love it love it

This is great, and I really enjoyed it. I would point out that it feels VERY upisnotjump. Like, I know you've said that was kind of the point, but it's just really, really strikingly obvious. Editing was good, and writing was brilliant. Since the youtube stuff has basically become self-entertainment for you I would say that as long as you enjoyed it you might as well go for it, especially if you intend to go back to doing more frequent streams: that might make some people stop complaining about the lack of content.

Well Read Nomad

I love it

Christopher Stairs

It's good but it's way too short in my opinion. I didn't even start listening to the video and it was already halfway in. If it's possible, try to shoot for 5 minutes. About the other reboot things. are completes(or whatever the fuck are they called now) gone? Because they (when it's a creative game) are the best stuff. please bring them back

Dejvo

as soon as I saw the runtime, I thought "fuck yes". I really enjoyed the 3 minute VR trivia video, despite the hate I saw it getting in the comments. And I have been watching dunkey and UpIsNotJump on your recent reccommendation of shorter videos. If this is enjoyable to you, I LOVE IT. DO WHAT YOU DO BEST DAN

Harvey Wiseman

I would limit the your mum jokes to one a year. I think it's a little rushed, would definitely come off better if the dialogue was a bit slower so I had more time to process everything. You don't want the viewer still realising how the meaning of a punchline when you're already onto the next one. I feel like with what you've said recently you've been inspired by UpIsNotJump and he makes great use of pauses to let information or a joke sit in. He also does well to contrast tone between jokes and serious and I think this could benefit from that too. I think it's a really cool idea and with a polish it could work really well, but I would also like to see more in depth recommends sometimes too, whether that means releasing a separate unedited video or just making these a bit more lengthy (UpIsNotJump is usually around 12-15 as I'm sure you're aware but obviously you don't want to straight up copy him, I'd say you could still make a good 8 minute video with this format).

Mike Jones

It's neat! I'm always down for a format switch and hope it brings in more viewers for you!

Cogspace

I liked it. Thought you used 1 to many your mum jokes but other than that I really liked it. It sort of felt like the honest trailer for a video game. Perhaps you should put a starring bit at the end😂. Great work look forward to seeing future vids

Tim Wiles

That was fucking incredible

Really like it it’s what you’re good. More than happy with this format

Well that was a pretty good synopsis of the game (I always play as Kassandra, and I agree with Dan she would probably kill me for looking at her). The video was hilarious but a bit too short for my liking, five minutes or so would (for me) have been better.

Mark Caswell

It’s exactly what your good at! So happy for you. Ps how regular are these videos going to be?

I really like this video, it's brilliantly paced and the jokes are genuinely funny. It being scripted is a new style and I think it works giving so much information in such a short time really keeps attention up especially when it's so funny. It also really seemed to suit the tone of the game, something action packed and fun with beautiful moments. I wonder if you're going to style these videos to the tone of the game or just keep them really upbeat and fast. Either way, great video, and I hope to see a lot more.

The video was comedy gold, I didn't even realise it was written but thats because I don't think I'm about that stuff and in hindsight, yeah it was written, which is great because you can plan the info you want to put in about the game and the way you want to say it. I think that the video length was fine but expanding by half a minute wouldn't be a bad idea either. Here's the kicker of it all, with everything provided I'm actually considering to buy the game, whereas before I wasn't even thinking about it. I'm not a massive assassins creed fan, barely got through the first one, replayed the shit out of black flag, the information you provided allowed me to make a somewhat informed decision if the game is for me. Basically, great video improvements can be made, keep the good stuff going

Tomasz Skowron

Well that was a ride! I agree with the comments about it being too short and too fast paced. I get the idea but it seems as if it's all trying to be said in one breath. Perhaps 4-5 mins with a slower pace of narration would benefit the script, the audience and the games. The "nemesis system" line was too long and too wordy and it came across as a struggle to fill in the time it was given. And yes too many your mum jokes, Dan you're a clever sod so use your wit for a less go to joke. Similarly the unicorn purchase video clip was only up for one second and could easily be missed thinking about an early funny comment. Perhaps a little more polishing but as a premise overall very good but now I want you to stream more Kassandra!

Richard Grayson

I think you need to include a more serious section. It being so full of jokes makes it come across as really insincere. Perhaps have Matt record some footage with a rough idea of a script and then fit it around the video so it's more like you're commentating? Also two your mum jokes about Greggs? WHY NOT THREE. GODDAMNIT DAN RULE OF THREE

I'd personally include platforms and maybe places you can buy it at the end or something for people who don't understand anything. Also, less jokes about "your mum" one was enough. other than that. Great, I liked the editing and there was a good amount of info that's important. the main reason it probably took so long was the fact that matt probably went through all the live stream footage. And another great thing is, it gives you a bit of a background without spoiling anything making it perfect for story driven games.

Malachy Hamilton

I love the video and how tight and packed with jokes it was. But I think it would benefit from being a minute or two longer. This would give it time to slow down towards the end as it seems to end quite abruptly. It would also give more time for the audience to laugh after each joke. Some of the lines also felt a little forced. I don’t think the problem if writing a script as it allowed for great jokes throughout the video. Its more that in time you will get better at the delivery as you make more videos like this and the delivery will become more natural.

I liked it. Felt it was a little hasty, so I was still thinking about balsa-wood ships whilst you were saying things about combat. Maybe my old brain is getting too slow? It was reminiscent of the style of Zero Punctuation (yes I also enjoy that show, how did you guess), but your style of comedy makes it compelling listening in a completely different way.

Paul Turner

I really like it, at first I thought it was a bit short with little breathing room, but after watching it a second time, I noticed that I got that all wrong (probably because I was surprised at how short it was). In my opinion you shouldn't change a thing, it's a nice short fun review.

In all honesty I think it's a little short and doesn't allow you to comment on the game in anything more than a superficial level. I get the idea but even zero punctuation runs for 5ish minutes, and Yahtzee edits out the breaths!

Jordan Wood

I like the idea of the series as it will give smaller developers some traction, but I feel like the scripting makes you sound too forced. I feel like, instead of getting you, we get you reading out a load of words. I’m not saying get rid of the scripts as you did say they help you, but I think the way you read them could be less forced and obviously scripted.

I really do love it, but my hunger for 'more' also drives me. That was hilarious, and tight, and beautiful, and that kinda short summary is great - but I wonder if it's a little...too short. That was clearly edited down to a snap pace, but I feel you could have let it out a little longer. Just give some time to digest it as it goes along. It's tricky, but I suppose the best way to do something like that would be to let it breath, and let it come out at the pace people think at as opposed to the fastest they can listen at. Think CinemaSins - they go quick, but there's room to breath. Each sin takes it's own thought. The microtransaction bit here especially went way to fast to even process the jokes, it felt like. So, don't be afraid to let your audience laugh between the jokes.

BurningEmber

I really like the scriptedness of it, and recommending small games that most people won't know about is obviously a great thing. I'd say that it's maybe a tad too quick, a couple seconds of breathing room here and there might make some jokes land better. Also, I'm very much looking forward to the saturday weird stuff. Those videos were, in my opinion, the best stuff you've done on YouTube. You seemed to love doing them, too!

I really really enjoyed it. My only problem with it is that it seems to just end suddenly. I'm trying to think of possible solutions, maybe just dial it back a bit at the end and don't end at 200 mp/h, but apart from that I love the energy and the writing of it. Cant wait to see this for more games.

Jan-Philipp Voss

Love you are trying new things. But I think it's a bit short. 8 to 10 minutes I think will be good. That way you don't have to rush and get more fun in. While still being short and to the point 👍 cheers from Denmark

I absolutely loved it, but like other people I believe that it could do with a couple more minutes of run time. I felt a little too much information was being dumped on me without enough time to absorb it, if that makes any sense? Nevertheless, I'm very glad you're enjoying making them!

Natalie Schmidt

For comedy I obviously like the Saturday videos more but i'll be damned if this ain't a fuckin' fantastic recommends, still quick and witty but also short, concise, and to the point. In short, I love it!

Joseph Patrick Toomey

The new format was good, it felt a little like I was watcjing a normal play's video but like thripple distilled. It will be interesting to see how far you push the conventions of the quick paced comedy review format, is there still time for non-written jokes or visual gags? Time will tell :P

Chloe McNamara-Bates

Agreed, maybe cutting to short, funny gameplay segments a la Angry Joe might work?

I really like this new format. Very different but it's still you. I would like some if the old adlibed humor back, this scripted stuff seems a bit overstuffed with dry humor. Maybe cutting to short funny game play segments (kind of like Angry Joe does it) would act as a nice break from the overload of information.

It's too fast, there's not enough time to laugh.

Jaxom

Could do with being longer. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes.

I really liked it, it was funny, witty and pretty much "Nerdcubed". But I really do think you had a few more minutes in you, I mean, it should be a bit longer, same format but like, 4 minutes. You probably had a lot more funny stuff to say, that you scrapped because it's you, I think you should give it a bit more meat, more buildup, and give yourself more room to mess around. Anyway I think this is going in a great direction, I'm very happy you're happy, really do keep it up, and thanks Matt, even though you suck you're awesome.

Amit Fidelman

Like just about everything Dan, I loved it. I wonder what you have tried with the times though, cause it seemed a little too short, (then again I’ve literally watched hundreds of hours of your content, so I want it all long and meaty.) Please do continue with a series though! I neeeed that. Love always.

This is good, and while i will miss the series and whatnot, some of the stuff from last year after your break included my favorite videos (desert bus vr comes to mind). overall, you put your best content out when you are feeling it. Thank you for the vids :)

just some jal

I really enjoyed it. As you said when you yourself have interest in what you are making it makes the content so much better. Always love to see one of your reboots. Also glad to here you might be doing some of the weirdness like what came last reboot, those were great.

I like the format and I’m glad you are still going to make Saturday videos as that was my first thought after watching. I think it would be a great idea to include mention (within the video or description with a link) if you have streamed the game if people want to watch a vid of it.

Jed Cole

Loved it, personally love the more condensed versions as have been so busy recently barely have time to watch an hours worth of vidoes when I get home. This video size is perfect for me to enjoy on lunch (exhibit A. this right now)

Really enjoyed it! But I feel like it being a little longer could make it a bit better, maybe 5 minutes or so?

But Dan, 60% less of 0 is 0! I do like the new format though, very informative

Love it

andrew carroll

So first of I like the video I enjoy the summary review style. But i feel like the gameplay is a bit to much in the background which can be fine if you are talking about the game in general but since you are actually talking about what is happening on screen and not just talking over b-roll i feel like the audio should not be this quiet. Just a note from someone far less skilled in... well everything at this point

Really enjoyed watching this, was like a mix of classic you with modern UpIsNotJump. Only thing I’d say is that it feels too fast, or too short. Longer and that would be perfect. We will still (hopefully) see streams and we’ll have Saturday content for people who are religious to the old format, but I do like it. Just hoping it’ll be made a bit longer (if possible of course)

Connor O'Reilly

I love the format but again i know its the reboot pilot but the videos need to be a little bit longer than that. I'll say your off the cuff jokes you used to make are usually some of the best so maybe some heavily scripted but maybe also some proper old style nerd cubed hell/hates games where you can adlib a bit more freely would work well too. Looking good for the reboot though!

I liked the video. Reminded me of what upisnotjump is doing (which i love). Only downside was the length. If it was like 5-10min of this level of jokes I'd be more engaged, just felt like the video just started and it was over.

Will Assenheimer

I really like it. I really like that you're putting some solid effort into what you're making again. This video bleeds your style and shines for it.

Matt Eden

I really enjoyed the video. Some of my favorite videos of your were the scripted ones such as the infamous one. But this was a bit too short and the pace was a bit too fast to catch every joke. I wouldnt mind seeing videos like this on a weekly basis. But i still want to also see the long ad-lib videos as well because i just love the natural interactions that happens when you play video games. I guess there should be a balance. Try something new and also keep some of the old. Overall as i said, i think its a bit too short. I prefer if it were done in the same style as the infamous video and other scripted ones that ran for more than 10 mins. However if this is something you find interesting and something that will keep you making videos. I will 100% support it.

Omar AlHashmi

is it wrong and crazy to say I would love this format if it was someone else doing it ? Lie it's enjoyable I love the quick edits [well done Matt] the tone is light and funny it is almost a rip of a ZP and I got a bit of a TB vibe from it too neother of these things are bad it's just not what I love about your videos I love the long rambling stuff where gameplay shocks you and you try and fail at things but hey still got Saturdays for that and at this point I'd rather you said fuck Youtube and do whatever you want So yeah I think you will lose a fair few longtime viewers but maybe maybe you will get more mainstream gaming viewers with this tyoe of format

I thought it was an excellent vid. Despite it being so short, I haven't enjoyed one of your videos this much for a while. Really well done to you and Matt. In the words of Ego from Ratatouille: "I will be returning soon, hungry for more."

Ollie Moules

That honestly works at selling me the game. Up until this point I've thought "Oh, that looks like a fun game that I may or may get round to eventually" but watching this makes me want to buy it really soon, so i can just start messing around in it. But that said, I do agree with what a few other people have said, that at some points it does feel a bit rushed through with what you're saying so I can't properly appreciate what you're saying.

Matthew Pike

Loving the new format, the script doesn't feel forced. The video was shot, informative and funny. Would love to see more of this format. Keep it up!

Wayne Chan

The first thing I thought when I started watching this video was "Oh boy, he's made a dunkey video" but as the video went on I realised that no, this was very much Nerdcubed and seemed to me like a shortened down chapter from your book made into a video which is absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to see more!

This format is dope, all the jokes landed really well but it felt like it was more gear to people who know the game and not as a quick 'all you need to know' type thing. Maybe add a little bit more explanation. For example, if I had never played the other assassins creed games when you went "its a full on RPG now" i would've gone 'ok how is that special', so you could have changed it to something like "unlike the other cookie-cutter go there stab that games this assassins creed is a full-on RPG". other then that great video totally loved it.

Birchwood

This video is entertainment. True entertainment. It isn't too short, but it leaves you wanting it longer, and ever second of it is worth watching. Theres no reason to skip. No fading out halfway. I could see how it might feel a bit too fast paced for some people, at least jumping between lines. Boucning from one line to the next with such speed. Though if that's the intent you achieved it! I certainly didn't mind. Despite being scripted, this video feels so very you. We can feel how much you enjoyed it. And we enjoyed it. So a mix of this sort and that beautiful mad shit that I loved so much at the last reboot sounds like the right direction in my opinion. But as long as you're having fun, I'll have fun. I know it.

Westley Wilson

I'll parrot everyone else and say the breakneck pacing didn't really work. I think the scripted format can certainly work, but it would need to be more like a Classic Game Room sort of pace. Longer, slower (though certainly not quite as slow as CGR, he's the slowest talker in the world), possibly even with some longer pauses to show game play. As is, I have absolutely no desire to learn anymore about the game in question (although to be fair I'd probably have little interest in Assassin's Creed to begin with). I do hope that the edited plays videos will still be a part of the reboot, but the new format does have potential.

The video was really well-written and funny, but also quite short. I very much prefer the long-form stuff, but I wouldn't mind seeing these mixed in from time to time.

John A Preston

I love the video. It does feel a little short. However, it reminds me of a zero punctuation with gameplay, and jokes. Hell, if you put one of them out on a Wednesday around the same time as ZP you might end up being the other/next yatz.

ThisDamnScotsman

Bloody love it, more like this feels like they would do really well! But I do agree with what some people are saying that you're maybe going a bit too fast, but apart from that its bloody amazing!

I really love it, but I felt a couple of times in the video that it was going at such a speed that it was difficult to take in some of the info or jokes before the next set of info and jokes. It's very interesting to see the direction you're driving the channel so I bet you'll perfect this in no time, AKA just before the next reboot. Also, I really enjoyed the mad shit from the last reboot, that Tiny Town VR video is probably one of my favourites you've ever made in the 6+ years I've been watching, so in my opinion more mad shit is very welcome indeed. Can't wait!

Zoe Bateman

I like the new format, it’s punchy and funny. Needs separating out a bit I think. Maybe have some visual gags or something with less voiceover so people have a bit of time to process what’s been said, especially for some of the punchlines.

Conor Finn

I really like it! I like that you're basically saying "fuck the algorithm" I like that you're finally showing more of your writing, by merging it with your video making And I like that we'll still get you improvising on Twitch :) My only criticism would be that this video felt a pit weirdly paced? IDK, because I enjoy Zero Punctuation (by the fabulous Yahtzee) and you're definitely speaking slower than him but I got a bit lost a couple of times! But you said it'll get polished more before it goes live so I'm excited :D

Snizzbut

Yeah, at this point chasing the algorithm is basically punching yourself in the face. Also, I miss the AC streams. Anyway. Can definitely tell it was a script, which is a good thing when it gives you time to structure thoughts and jokes, because you're good at that. Although your off-the-cuff quickness is something to behold. It felt like you were trying to speed run the script, though, not deliver it; there wasn't time for most points to land, which doesn't feel like you (except during rapid-roster-rundowns, but that's a style that needs to stay separate, imo). While enough other responses have popped up while I typed this that I feel like I'm dog-piling, I'll say it, too: Pacing. Breathe. Don't edit it until it squeaks. P.S., props to Matt for finding all the right footage in those hours-long streams.

Diane Frank

I like it, but it is Zero Punctuation

I love the idea of the new videos, the faat-paced, quick wit is why I'm supporting you. However, as just about everyone else before has said, slow down the pacing a bit, some of the punchlines get lost. Though I will miss your weird tangents that arise from unscripted madness, I loved the script.

I think even Yahtzee Croshaw would say that you were speaking a little too fast, but the information was delivered in a genuinely funny way and it's great to see/hear you putting your writing talent to use and matching it with you're more old school fast paced editing. The "Your Mum" jokes killed me. They sell the childish humour mixed with clever witticism I've come to know you for and exactly what makes you stand out from all other YouTubers who would just yell incoherent expletives and expect us to laugh. You put genuine effort in and it fucking shows, just maybe slow down a tad.

Great Saxtonian

i dig the fuck out of it like it was your mum digging her doritos into salsa

mychemicalbromance

video: good ideas. slow down a bit. needs to be twice as long, having said that, doesn't need twice the content. again, slow down a bit. give what you're saying some time to breathe, because what you're saying is generally quite good. although i will say that the whole boat &gt; murder &gt; unicorn &gt; understand &gt; death joke should have ended on the unicorn, it fizzled out afterwards and made what preceded it less funny in retrospect. it overstayed it's welcome a bit i think. and this is just personal taste but i don't think you should say goodbye at the end. criticisms aside, i did really enjoy it. my favourite content you make will always be completes, but this is definitely up there among the best of your one-video-per-game videos. rest of the reboot: collabs... can be fun. in the right circumstances. but generally i prefer solo content. (partly because of the way you treat matt. i know it isn't real, i know you guys are good friends, but that doesn't make it magically enjoyable for me. i still just don't like it.) mad shit... can also be fun. but the last time you rebooted it was kind of hit and miss. though you found your stride eventually so hopefully the mad shit won't need time to settle in again. and, a final plea, don't abandon completes. please.

awktopus

I like that you're actually using your writing talent in your videos now. And given I have the attention span of a peanut with ADHD: Short good, me like! Though the pacing itself was probably a little too fast IMO, I think the fast dense thing can work if you have something to break it up now and then to give more weight to the punchlines. As others have said, too many "Your mum" jokes. Not that they're unfunny, but more than one in a 2 minute video is repetitive and I know you can write better than that. But this is definitely a good direction for the channel.

George Farren

This is fine as an introduction to a game. But I generally enjoy listening you go off on a tangent as you try some wacky thing in a game. I wouldn't mind this as just a partial replacement for your existing style.

I'm with most of the commenters on here. This looks like a super fun new style, excited for more, could you slow down a touch. It did feel a bit breakneck for me and was sometimes tricky to pause for a joke or internalize what was said. Still love the idea of these bite size vids and indie coverage.

The Ferret

A reboot is an existing time, especially when you fuck with people, love the direction this is going, can't wait to see the weird shit return, destiny was the greatest video you ever made

DapperCyborg

More mad shit! More mad shit! More mad shit!

Katelyn Farrugia

In honor of your shorter video's reboot idea, i will keep mine short as well: Its good but too quick.

Stipsyn

Absolutely adored the AC video, so much more of your writing talent shone through and I think that’s where your biggest strengths lie (super excited for the book btw). More of the same please Mr Cubed

I like it! Although I wish it was a bit longer, but maybe that's the point? Maybe interspace the scripted bits with live commentary segments of you actually playing the game? Like maybe if in that last sequence, after you finish the scripted bit, there was a live-commentary game footage of you laughing your ass off? Dunno, though, you're the artist here. I like this format, though, and would definitely watch it regularly!

I really really enjoyed that. One downside would be that is was a little but to fast but that might just be me. Can't wait for the next one.

I like the idea and the concept but the execution needs a little bit of work. I got a real videogamedunkey/upisnotjump vibe (like everyone else in this comment section) which caught me a little off guard and your previous plays video (that trivia vr thing) has left a bad taste in my mouth so I may be slightly biased (or something, I don't know). With that said, I think that it was a little too fast. A lot of the jokes were funny but I didn't always laugh. It lacked build up. I kinda just heard a joke and was like "right, that was a funny joke". Maybe the pacing needs to be a tad bit slower, a little more time to breath, I'm not sure but something just wasn't right. The script, however, was great (except for having two mom jokes, so close to eachother without some sort of relation), well done on that front! And the style suits you!

I really loved it. I was very surprised with the length of the video but after watching it I thought it was perfect for the style you're going for! To be honest this video has made me laugh more than your more recent ones. Going with collabs is an excellent idea as is going back to the mad shit, the mad stuff was the best stuff on your channel in my opinion anyway

Purple Disarray

I love it. It’s perfect and it’s amazing. If you can manage to do this style of video with the decrease in ad revenue, then do it. Go for it, I love it.

Darythe Hill

Dan. This is the kind of video that I've been watching more and more lately. Are you spying on my web history?

I’m down for more mad shit, the weirder the better. As for the video it’s funnier than some of your latest offerings, the run time is definitely a boon but these videos need to be (in my opinion) sandwiched between longer vids or its gonna kill the channel faster than a dodgy curry goes through your dietary tract.

jamie barber

Nice snappy and actually funny. Look forward to more. Only thing i would add is how often will a new video be put up ?

I enjoy the new style, it just felt a tad bit rushed. Even if you used the same script and just spoke a little slower I would have enjoyed it more. With saying that, I did really enjoy it and I think you did very well, I am excited to see the other polished version you will be putting up. My only other complaint is this made me wanting more. Now I want to watch you go through everything. I love the videos and series where you play and talk to us for hours!

Only thing I can think to add is, because you're talking so fast and you already have a script, put in the closed captions - Youtube's automatic ones are ok but they can also be exceptionally wrong when your Essex comes out a little. Also, maybe workshop a better ending than just "goodbye", I actually thought the previous line was a better place to end the video with just a long-ish awkward silence, but mileage will definitely vary and it might be worth keeping the closing word consistent if these are going to be all over the place content-wise.

It was as long as it needs to be. Gives you enough but leave you wanting more. Well paced and funny. Very enjoyable would watch more if you don’t bin it.

John Oke

Sort of like a nicer Yahtzee with a more reasonable laugh per minute (or second) rate. Big fan.

Me like

Jellex

100% agree, if you've never watched any previous videos its fine. but after hearing him speak for hours this dosen't sound like Dan at all

Nice mix of information and comedy, the best bit is your interesting use of strange lexis, odd words like mush for mouth that makes me laugh out loud, the analogy of the shopping trolley down a lift was golden, the game is just a catalyst for the jokes, we just want to laugh, the information is a bonus. But maybe be a little more monotone, just my 2c but sometimes your pitch changes seem cheesy.

My only compaint is the your mum joke, they are beneath you and they have been so overused they just arent funny, just mildly annoying. (I don't think a channel i watch helped this since there is one in every video)

Zumigal

I liked it, well paced, funny and decently informative. However I enjoy seeing you interact with a game opposed to recommending them. Still it's short so I'd watch more like it and with as long as i get my fix on a Saturday then I'm all for this style of video.

Thought it was great 😊 agree with other people saying it could be a little longer but at the same time it felt longer than it was because of the density like you say! It's also a first try at the format so you can only get better at it in terms of what people are saying regarding joke types etc. I'd love to be a part of editing your videos in some twisted reality, it's a very satisfying editing style which like I say will probably only get better the more you refine your version of it 😊

The video is super good. I think it would benefit from being a bit longer though, maybe 2-3 minutes. On another note, I think doing crazy stuff like you started with in the last reboot is something that no other YouTuber is really doing, and its something that you do really well.

double your mum jokes= nooo, also you sound like a compressed version of upisnotjump

I like it, but... - One too many "your mum" jokes. You humour and style extends beyond that. There's something else about it that's making me feel a little...off. I like and will happily embrace the change, so it's not that. Will go away and think.

Harmelodic

I'm really interested to see how this format plays out with a small indie, some weird game I know nothing about. But I always like when you mix things up! Just like a game, I'll need more playtime for a final review

I absolutely love it. Your writing is superb, your delivery is great. You seem to settle somewhere between Zero Punctuation and UpIsNotJump in a "more entertainment than review" kind of way and it really fits you. I feel like it would benefit from being slightly longer (3 to 4 minute range) to have an opportunity to change up the pace a bit, because in this one you're just fast all the way, there's no real buildup. Also this way you could fit more information in but I realise it would mean even more work for a short video so maybe it's more practical like it is.

Stefan Eisenreich

Feels very up is not jump, which is definitely not a bad thing. I'll miss the longer plays videos but between these, the streams, and hopefully some strange Saturday videos it should be enough. I'd rather have short videos your enjoying than long videos that are a slog.

Craig Wright

It's nice if not a bit too announce-ry. It's unlike you, probably cos it's a script.

Mark Fletch

Love it.

I feel that the lines need just the smallest amount longer to breath. It's a fun format that I'll enjoy watching. My only concern is I find myself wondering why I would watch them other than to enjoy them. The format is too short for a full review. I wouldn't be convinced to buy a game based only on this video. Maybe as a first introduction to a game it might work. So maybe I might watch this before committing half an hour to a more in-depth review. For a small Indi game that's priced much lower I might be persuaded to take a punt based only on one of these videos.

Soronlin

Youre Yahtzee with gameplay footage now! I can get behind this, as long as you continue to let me and a lot of others throw monies at you on Twitch ^-^

I dig it, and I look forward to the versions of this for games I've not seen or heard much about. I think this is a great way to find out just enough to know if a game seems interesting to me. Overall, the reboot sounds promising.

yeah! maybe tie in the game to that video so you could have maybe a particular game featured every week so one week it might be Spyro so Dan might stream Spyro then does a quick paced review like this; people then can't really complain about the short videos because they can then go and watch the stream to get a deeper opinion/more game play??

zeddubbsy

You once said Rebecca was so happy after your coxcon panel because so often at home you’re just being funny and making jokes about what you see, and no one else gets to see it, but on the panel you could do that, for a live audience, and you made the whole room laugh. Your comedy greatness is in reaction - your response on a panel, your sarcastic comment after a “serious” moment in a cutscene, the faux gasp of fear you make when a guard suddenly walks round a corner towards you in a stealth game. You react. This pure “review” style lacked your defining trait: quick wit. You’re a great script writer, but this felt like the script was holding you back.

Matt Thomson

I think this is an interesting new flavour of video for you to do. We've seen you do the unedited plays stuff, we've seen the edited let's play comedy stuff, we've seen the beautiful mad stuff from the start of last reboot (my personal fave stuff), and of course you streaming. Different folks are always gonna have a personal preference for which kind of video you do. But most importantly, if this is something you can enjoy making? Go for it. I'm sure you'll do amazing things with it. May take a while for you to really hit your stride with it, but honestly even this first taste is REALLY good

Honestly, it's just very different. I can see why people wouldn't enjoy it, in fact I watched it thinking "oh... maybe... maybe not" but you know what? It's gonna have high retention and I'll keep coming back to see what you do next. I think it feels very dunkey but without the memes which isn't necessarily a bad thing but is part of his charm too. I think it'll take time to settle into but after 3 or 4 videos time I'll start to love it.

I enjoyed the video. I think it's a great reboot, it'l probably generate some audience, and I will happily enjoy every video of yours continuing. But I do hope that your off the cuff style won't cease to exist? Some of the funniest bits you've ever had on your channel came from something you pulled out of your ass last minute. That being said, this was high quality, and can't wait for the next.

Evelyn

Gave it a second watch just now and though it's still not quite my cup of tea I did enjoy it a fair bit more. The writing truly is funny and excellent. I think the snappiness of the whole thing is my big issue. Jokes flew over my head on my first watch because I was still comprehending the last, but maybe that's just a problem with me? Either way I'm excited to see how you run with this.

Joshua Aarons

It is not necessarily a bad video, but i just love watching you because of how you react to things that happen in game , but either way i still think the videos are great

Tristan Rios

I think it's great, though I can tell you're certainly reading off from a script, and I was half expecting you to break off the script for some random impromptu joke or some mistake at some point. I don't mind the speed, because I love Zero Punctuation's fast jokes that can go by without notice the first 10 times you watch the video. The abrupt ending works better if you went out on a joke or something, or perhaps just something that leaves the audience off with more than simply "goodbye". Overall, wonderful!

Tustin2121

I love it. it's boldly going where various other people have gone before but with your own twist. The love, the energy, the soul of what makes your work great is still there and it is something you should be proud of.

Finn McCool

I really liked it, but then again I've always liked your stuff best when it's tightly edited and joke heavy. It's very natural as far as scripted videos go, if a bit less genuine than an edited down adlib video with more reactionary jokes would be.

“As stealthy as a shopping trolley falling down a lift shaft." The writing in that video was superb. You really do have a knack for dishing out facts comedically and quickly, it reminded me of Douglas Adams, actually. As for length of the video, it was over much faster than I expected. Despite that, it did feel like you said everything you needed to and the whole point of it was to have everything condensed down into a tiny video. Overall, well done!

Arcade Cat

I really like it. It's well written and definitely on par with channels like Escapist and the likes. Information is clear and there's good coverage of the visuals (so well done Matt). Main thing is that it uses your writing talents, which are coming into light more and more with the release of a book and the start of another (and whatever other endless amounts of things you have tucked away), so the style makes sense. I like it :)

Chris Camm

As a lurker in your streams, I love the idea of this comedy infused, well scripted and edited rundown of games on YouTube with full playthroughs on Twitch. I've watched you on YouTube for years and to me this feels like the times where you shouted out free games every Friday, and the times where you shouted out, which in some cases completely made, fun indie games that may be struggling for coverage. I think having a completes on Twitch is a cool idea and maybe a weekly/fortnightly highlights video from the Twitch channel would be cool alongside this content. Keep it up, Dan! :)

Anteater46

Feels like maybe you lose the genuineness of laughing at yourself after coming up with something great on the spot

D Martin

Does not work for me, don’t care about reviews, I want to watch and listen you play the game. Way to densely packed and felt forced, the video part is just a clip show and adds nothing. I get that you are trying to change things up, but not for me. Will catch the streams when I can or wait for the uploads.

This feels like the video version of a chapter from your upcoming book, full of facts and jokes and very enjoyable. I look forward to more like this and it’s great to hear that some of the Saturday videos are going back to how they were at the start of the last reboot.

QuietlyRobyn

Could kind of feel the script a little. Felt a bit unnatural but excited to see what happens when you get into the swing of it

D Martin

While I enjoyed it, it felt a little run of the mill to me. This feels like someone else's format, but I have a feeling it'll start feeling more "Nerd³" as time goes on. Which probably means things start getting weird. That's when I think these will get really great.

Terry Johnson

Needcubed Zero Punctuation. With yo momma jokes. I'm into it.

Brett Smith

I really like the short format. Keeping it under 3 minutes works really well. I think the flow of the commentary needs some work though. Even with the shorter format people's brains still want that compressed story arc. Possibly lining up the commentary with your own feelings about the game as you spent more time with it.

Christopher Walker

I'm honestly not a huge fan. It felt much more like a review to me than a comedy-gaming video. The jokes didn't really land for me, either. I'm much more a fan of the improvisational style that I'm used to with this channel. That feels much more natural to me than a fast-paced, scripted video like this. I feel like I'm probably in the minority with this, but I feel like I'm more likely to watch a longer video than a really short one like this. That's my thoughts, anyway.

Brian

Incredibly funny video, not much else i can add (sorry)

Craig (CraigUntlNytTym) Penfold

Dan making your mum jokes long after they were abandoned by most people will never get old.

Really enjoyed it. Felt very Zero Punctuation, just a bit less negative. I think the goodbye at the end felt a tad awkward, but other than that, I really like this as new format and look forward to seeing more of it! Especially since these days I don't have as much time to watch the longer videos like I used to. All of that 'have to actually do work at the office' kind of stuff.

I genuinely think it's a bit too short. 2 minutes just isn't enough time to both talk about the game and squeeze in the jokes where you can. I enjoyed what was there, but I'm seeing some comments saying they wish there were more jokes, and I wish you could've gone even a tad bit deeper into the game, whether it was talking about the RPG elements of the game, of which received a mere passing mention, Kassandra as a character, how X and Y have improved rather than just saying "They have". A slight deeper dive may even prove to allow for more opportunities to make jokes. Although, that said, it gets to a point where although the video was good, and it was funny. It did feel a lot like Yahtzee. It still needs that something that just sets it apart from "Man with accent talks fast about games and runs out of breath. Comedy ensues." Yahtzee has his classic animation and editing that sets him apart. What do you have? I don't want this to come across as a hate comment, I really like the series and I want it to succeed. I just find it lacking in some way that's difficult to describe.

maybe to really get the contrast between the hype of the game against the microtransactions; you could potentially switch to a much more comedic and whiny voice to accentuate the negativity of the microtransactions

zeddubbsy

*i wrote this before but I think it deleted, sorry if it hasn’t and it’s annoying* Absolutely fucking love it, love the pace of the jokes and the jokes themselves, love the video in general , pretty much perfect in my eyes , love the zero punctuation fast paced joke after joke after joke style , do however feel like it could benefit from being a little longer, but if the vids are that funny all the time the length of them doesn’t really matter

wade beale

Loved it, people will complain of length but the older i get and the more people i watch im liking shorter vids, as another comment says i can see the zero punctuation influence which is by no means a bad thing especially since this (and i hope the future ones) was more positive than Yahtzee, also i love that its written beforehand im super excited for the book and these just seem like mini chapters for new games love this reboot!

Jack Draper

Feels like it’s more grounded than the recent stuff, maybe a bit longer (around the 5 minute mark is a nice time). I agree with what some people have been saying about speed, maybe slow down the talking a bit but keep up the enthusiasm. Oh and please don’t start putting red circles and arrows anything bright red really over your videos. Think it can just look a bit naff and so many people do it, (I get it’s there to highlight, but maybe find another way with the same effect)

I mean I'm interested in the game after that video (yes I actually haven't watched any related stuff). Also new here in Patreon; saw the reboot happening and wanted to be in with the cool kids :) I now have power... sweet! Love the ideas! Love the video! Long time fan, first time Patron~

Stuffie

Just a small bit of criticism however; while it was great, I felt as it was a bit disjointed when you switched from the micro transactions back to the game - the tone wasn't necessarily the best as well as the "uh" and the pause after. Seems as if you went from improv back to scripted in not a very smooth way; maybe I'm just being a bit picky :)

zeddubbsy

I really like it!! I think it will really help sell games that people are unsure about buying as they can find a quick summary rather than digging through hours of content to see if they want it or not.

When were you planning to release this videos and how frequently?

My thoughts are this: I do like the new format of videos, but I feel like the occasional longer-ish video will be good, especially for games you'd like to show off a bit more. Before I like to buy games I wanna see some more in depth gameplay to entice me, but I'm worried it might not work for short videos. As for the logo on Twitter, I honestly don't know if it's a joke or not. If it's not, I recommend sticking to your current one. It's tough to read and kinda generic. If you were leaning towards spelling out the whole of "NERDCUBED" and not use the 3, then that's fine with me. Just maybe stick with the font of your current logo if you're gonna change it. As for the mad videos, I am so glad to hear these are possibly returning. Those videos are some of my absolute favorites from your channel. All good with that. All around looking forward to this. Keep it up, Dan. Also have to thank Matt for keeping the channel stable while you work with other stuff. God Speed Nerdcubed and co.

Joe Dispoto

Really enjoyed it!

I really like it but I definitely would like to see longer videos during the week like complete series and stuff like that

i don't like it. now, i'm here to support you and not to buy your content or whatever so in the end i'm happy for you to do what you like. but this just doesn't work for me. i like your recommendations because over the course of 20 minutes i'm not just entertained but also you often speak with such enthusiasm and genuine joy over details that make the game work for you and it's not only what makes that recommendation honest but also what makes it convincing. i don't get that from this video, which is probably mostly down to the writing forcing a certain style of delivery that's not you bursting with joy over how amazing something is but more of a overly-excited-memey-sales-pitch... thing. as for comedy, i feel like you're at your best when you come up with a plan (something to build in besiege or a game for little and cubed or what to do with a cow in just cause 3) either in the moment or before you record the video and then work off of that. sometimes it's hilarious because it works, sometimes because it crashes and burns, sometimes because something completely different happens and you just react to it. and as much as your edited videos are full of jokes, one every few seconds, they're not devoid of escalation, which often offers set-ups you just can't get in this format. the short duration, the fact that you're not reacting in the moment and the - to me kinda forced - writing don't make this something i laugh about (not that it gives me time to do so as it immediately moves on to the next thing) but rather a bite-sized review that's hard to take seriously and hard to follow. again, just my thoughts and as long as you're happy doing it, i'm happy supporting you.

"Over on the big blue wet thing" was a great line.

Dylan Evans

Just like your mu...

Nerd³

That was pretty good. I would prefer there to still be series like Sims and Spiderman and stuff, but tiny bite size videos like this smattered in between is pretty excellent

Honestly, nowadays it’s so hard to give attention to a full length video, I’ve probably watched hundreds of videos only a couple minutes through over the last few months since starting to get older and more busy and have access to exponentially more content. I love the video and while I do love quirk, sarcastic hilarious Nerdcubed we get a lot of that in the streams now so I think this could work as a change. It’s also a lot more reviewer like than any other videos you used to make which I like.

Katelyn Campbell

The main thing I enjoyed about that was the obvious and unabashed enthusiasm. I regularly rewatch videos of yours with that kind of enthusiasm (Megaton rainfall comes to mind) just for the joy of watching someone LIKE THINGS, y'know? It was also a very useful review for how short it was. That gleeful quality is the key, I think, even if you're not actually recommending the game. Grumpy cynics are a dime a dozen these days.

Dylan Evans

The first half is great. The second half is fine, but not perfect. My main observation is that it goes so fast that it does sound like you’re reading off a script. I’m not really getting time to take in what you’re telling me as I’m also trying to watch what’s happening on screen. It also means jokes get a bit lost amongst the other things you’re saying so there’s not time to laugh. I got more out of a second viewing rather than the first which is going to be key with videos this short. If you try to pace it a tad slower so it feels a bit more naturally spoken, an extra 20/30 seconds would definitely give you that leeway to slow it a little. Add a couple more moments of pause for effect for a visual gag or two, the information will sink in better and you’ll get a good extra laugh or two - showing the horse galloping around in the unicorn gear for a few seconds would have driven that gag home! Overall, this looks like it’ll be a fun twist for the channel. Short vids are great just avoid rushing through all your points when you’re mixing info and gags.

Honestly Dan, i have loved, do love, and will probably continue to love everything you do. These types of video's are amazing and with your comedic input, i know ill love all of them, however if these are going to be once a week videos, then im not sure if its a good idea to keep these up (depending on what other types of videos your doing of course) and i think your time would be better invested in the plays videos you do Keep it up though. Im loving everything you do &lt;3

It shall move to twitch where I can spend longer times with it!

Nerd³

Right. 6 seconds in and I was already sold. I really like this format, really liked the video. Honestly think 2 mins is pretty perfect for timing, maybe a bit longer but maybe not as long as five minutes if you really want something short and sweet and to the point. Overall really like it, would want more and I’m excited for what’s to come!

Dan. This is fucking excellent. I had to watch it two or three times to get everything, but I'm fine with that, cause it makes it almost as long as a really short normal video.

I feel like if this was to become the normal style of video, I think it would be nice if it was one video like this a week (and the Saturday video) and maybe 2/3 one hour long streams (including the Sunday planned stream) where you just kind of piss about in a game a week. I think that would be the perfect format in my opinion :)

Honestly I didnt care for the your mom jokes they feel lazy old and over played.

YourJelly

Feels very ZeroPunctuation, I worry you'll be seen as a version of him without the 'fancy' graphics he has. This is actually blending into a good few other channel's systems. Maybe if you'd perhaps blend in some of your gameplay and your audio while playing it as well? For example, you saying 'Oh the ship combat is better, you can twat sharks now' and then it cuts noticeably to you shouting and screaming or whatever you were doing while twatting the shark, maybe a cut in the audio to also signify this is the audio while you were playing, then it swoops back into the review. It would add a different comedy element and help differ you from some other reviewers.

Spartan

Yes sir, very good. More. Make more. NOW. DANCE MONKEY DANCE!

Harry Jupp

I like the format, however some of it doesn’t seem like your personality behind it, but the jokes and the pace really works

I absolutely love the style - I'm excited to see more of it HOWEVER - please make sure we still get some long videos (30 mins +). Just because I came to this channel because I love listening to you rant and improvise. Not saying this new style isn't great - I love your scripting style, but still need them long vids

I love this style but if I had to have one criticism its that streams aren't frequent enough to be able to support viewership and they will probably get disinterested and unsubscribe but other than that it is an absurdly good proof of concept.

I do really love it and you could tell with your energy that you are really having fun with this style. If I were to get positive criticism, it would be that, just like you intended it it is "info, info, joke, info, joke, info, info, joke" a constant barrage and that was fun... but for me, with my slow brain at the moment, I found myself rewinding it often to repeat something because I didn't have the time to process what was said or what was on screen because it was so fast paced. If it stays like that, I wouldn't have a problem but that's my two cents! The most important thing is that you are having fun and enjoying yourself, that is the energy I LOVE to see in you. Also, YAY for more collabs (something I have been saying is needed) and weird shit! &lt;3

Feels very zero punctuation. I like it but dont know if this is the vibe you're looking for. As someone who's dropped off recently, the short runtime will make me much more likely to tune in.

Also the standard for each video should be at least 2 mum jokes haha

Zion Aitken

That was pretty excellent. Had a real zero punctuation vibe to it

Alex Turner

The voice unnerved me, cause it didn't sound like the tone I'm now used to. But it's clearly supposed to be a different tone. I guess that's what Twitch is for. I do love the thick and fast style however.

UnSafeStu

Can you tell Dan's been watching more UpIsNotJump recently? ;) I like it, it's just Dan's old humour packed into 2 minutes. I'm in two minds about the pacing though. The first time I watched it, I felt that everything after 22 seconds was way too fast and a bit forced, but on the second viewing it seemed fine. I guess there's a fine balance between making a shorter than usual video and feeling rushed when watching it; I'd be a tiny bit tempted to slow it to ~2 1/2 mins. The simple 'goodbye' at the end rounds it off perfectly. You're firing a quick-fire review at us and then leaving. No pissing about. Bosh!

Harry Cochrane

As always, Dan, I love it! I guess that’s why I support you on here. Keep up the awesome work.

Tristan Stubbs

will you be continuing sims 4?

Mewgaming

I really enjoyed that. I would be happy if you did maybe one of those a week and a 15-30 min video.

Justin Norman

I feel like the ending could do with some work, it felt very abrubtly ended. Overall really like this style of a review for a game, but I am not sure if these types of videos fit the channel currently. Since most people come here just for comedy, and not for game reviews. This is definetly the best and most enjoyable review I know tho, so that is a good thing to aim towards with the channel.

Yeah, I'm hoping to hit a nice mix of short recommendations, medium length silliness and longer streams. Something for everyone.

Nerd³

Holy shit you've turned into Yahtzee. I love it, but I think a lot of your other fans might not, because good god the amount of complaints you got from the 3 minute Plays video. My advice: Do whatever the fuck you like - YouTube's going down the shitter anyway..might as well flush right?

Rowan Mackenzie

I love the idea honestly, I have loved ZP reviews for ages and I get a bit of a ZP vibe from you doing this style of video, the only difference with your version is my fiancee actually likes it. Knowing what she's like I say run with this and never ever change hahahahah

I'm conflicted. I enjoy it as a review. Gives me ZeroPunctuation vibes. I like the no-nonsense, straight-to-the-punches discussion which doesn't take an age to watch. If I stumbled across this video in the wild, I'd watch more. HOWEVER, personally, I don't watch your videos for dense information. I watch your videos because you're a delightful chap, and half an hour of you on my screen fills a nice little void. However however, I do realise there's always twitch and your longer form videos to fill said void. I also realise this is a reboot, and the whole point is to shake things up. I also, also realise that both of these points make my criticism mostly pointless. All in all, I'll watch these videos, and I'll enjoy them, but they'll just leave me hungry for more 😂 P.S. We hit our £1,500 target for our children in need 24hr Gameathon. Ta for the help 🎉

I adore it. It’s exactly what your comedy and writing have been building up to in my eyes It’s content I want and hell, it’s content I want to see my games made with :P As a game developer it’s also very insightful and really nice to see how your view a game distilled down

That was great. Really great. If all of the 'Nerd³ Quick' videos are up to that standard then this could be the beginning of something amazing.

Zion Aitken

Fuck it! Try it, why not! It’s a creative outlet and it was a fun video!

Ian Murphy

I like it, and I wonder if the new format might lead to material for occasional blooper reels, if that's something you'd be interested in doing.

Tom Chaney

Oh, I have a question though; will you be doing this with any new games that come out, or do you think you might revisit/review some older games? It might be cool to see some classic games be reviewed like this or maybe some games that you played years ago and still enjoy

What about podcats... but... a duo...

Nerd³

I love how you've become a combination of upisnotjump and zero punctuation ( zeroisnotpunctuation, if you will). However, you sound too forced and unnatural at the moment. It also feels too rushed, I'd think twice the length would feel better than the speed here. While I love the video, I will miss having a proper plays video on games you'll cover in these; I would have loved a proper assassin's creed Odyssey plays, it would have been gold. Potentially the chance of both videos for 1 game? Nevertheless, great video!

Will ''The Button King'' Harding

GOOD CRITICISM. I tried to mix in a few jokes for people who have played it, so theres a reason to watch it if you've already played the game. I will keep an eye out for that balance in future!

Nerd³

This style is quite like UpIsNotJump's style... AND I BLOODY LOVE IT!!

It’s was good felt some of the jokes where a lot better than others though but I imagine that will get better over time

GamerGeorgeXl

That was really fun!

Eoin Thorpe

This is great, I think a script is a good route to go because you're great at writing and telling stories and I'd love to see more of that. Structure suits you well and streams/Saturday videos can cover the more relaxed, in depth conversation stuff that the videos will be missing out on now

I love how short and snappy it it is, I would prefer a more range of videos some moments short and sweet and some long. You could have a few 2 minute videos and maybe a 30 min video.

It's a greater video, I enjoyed it very much. I'd say keep going with it. :D Though I must admit I'm a little sad my total Dan time is gonna go down a tad :)

Surftown

I enjoyed it, couldn't keep up with you totally but overall it left me chuckling so I'm happy.

Daniel Auty

I really enjoyed that and I think the 'short but dense' writing style really works for a review. Maybe in future I'd like to see try out a full Dunkey style though with a focus solely on comedy. Also not too keen on the red circles. Good job :)

Haxosaurus

I really liked it! But as some other have pointed out, your voice sometimes doesn't completely fit. Maybe it's just getting used to it but it seemed off in some cases. Like you were really trying to sound different. Overall it was great fun though. I loved the jokes and the overall presentation!

Marco te Kortschot

i'm not a huge fan. i like your videos for gameplay, you've basically gone from 'mostly gameplay sometimes opinion' to 'generic game review' your other videos were unique, whereas this, apart from your personal flares, could easily be a jim sterling, dunkey, outsidexbox, or countless other 'game review channel' video

CMS creations

Loved it. But I would say its essential you keep that Sunday slot for something a bit different. I really enjoy this but still want my improve moments also(sunday video)

I absolutely love this! I've always wished that game review videos would be shorter, they always seem to drag out these days. This is great though!! I can tell these would be a lot of fun to make and I can't wait to see more!

Glad the mad shit from the last reboot will be back! Also, really liked the format of the video, I think it's a great idea for you to use your writing skills in your videos. Loved everything in it. Btw, what will happen to the Completes... series?

Ahh I love it. I was waiting to see your scripting skill and Matt's editing skill at full form and this is it. Besides I enjoy much shorter content. Since you wan't constructive criticism and I'm a dick: I think it may be too fast, to the point where I miss a joke or it doesn't land because it's so fast. I could barely comprehend the sausage joke before were were off to the next one. I enjoy dunkey's highly edited and scripted shorts but he's methodical enough for you to understand and let every joke breathe. Other than that I'm all in

Charlie Posey

needs more s i m u l a t o r s

Loved it. Felt like you were actually enjoying yourself, which definitely comes through as a better video. I think a little longer (still not long, maybe 4-5 mins) would be better.

Awesome! Genuinely, awesome! Quickfire jokes work really well for you, keep going with that. If the book is what instigated you into doing this I love it even more. You got a hell of a lot of info into a tiny time, which definitely helps the format. The title may need a little work...it doesn't really sell that you're recommending/reviewing a game as much as making jokes about it, which is still the point, but not as much? Maybe Nerdcubed's Rundown? Still love it!

James Macleod

The tone and pacing is pretty good, more variety on jokes though. It's okay to double dip on one punchline but you don't want to make it feel like that's all you can come up with and are just beating the dead horse. I suppose this is something that will change from video to video but that's kind of my only complain so far.

WritingInVerse

I really liked it was a bit nervous that the channel would just be this but I think this while keeping the Saturday series would work. On one hand I’d love some more of a scripted dense video but I think any longer and it would drag on and not be succinct. Basically I liked it

Alex Harrison

I can just see it now, NerdCubed: More Reboots than most Comic Universes. In all seriousness, I really enjoy the new video style. Quick, Efficient and Hilarious.

Sebastian Silveria

I don't think I've ever been more excited for a reboot! Especially that reboot video, let's see if you can top making people think Ashens was going to take over :P I'm perfectly fine with you *gasp* scripting your videos. It works, and obviously massively improves the quality. I do think that it could possibly being longer and slightly slower, just because the sheer hyperactivity of it, while obviously meaning that if a joke doesn't land we can ignore it for the next one, makes it a little hard to fully take in everything, without concentrating extra hard. That and I'm greedy and want to wate more of my existence watching your videos. As for the new schedule, I think it's fine. Collabs have clearly been when you've had the most fun, so I say go for it. You've been doing this for close to a decade, just make whatever you enjoy goddamnit! That and we all need more UpIsNotJump in our lives. And I guess Matt and Jon too, if they have to come.

Isla Edmond

(The logo was just him messing with twitter)

Dylan Parry

Oh lord here we go again! I did enjoy the video a lot however I was worried that they were all going to become super short form like this. Then I read the post and if you continue the Saturday videos as they were (Especially if its back to the first ones from last reboot, damn they were fucking funny) while also including these faster and denser videos then I think the balance seems perfect! It's hard to tell until a few weeks into the reboot usually but it seems promising :) Also yes keep fucking with twitter please it's amazing.

Max Campbell

I like the video but it sounds like you're just trying to be someone else and because of this what you're saying doesn't sound genuine. I think you just need to experiment a bit to find your own style and it will be excellent.

Tyler Kelley

In response to the new channel format, I think you should have "completes" style series on Twitch but maybe focus on talky games like Planet Coaster and Factorio. Those style of long running series have always been my favourites!

Dylan Parry

While a different style this reminded me of your ni no kuni video from a few years back which was hilarious (and still my favourite) however here’s my feedback: - until about half way through it felt a little forced (but I guess that’s typical of it being your first video of this style and the more you do the more comfortable you’ll get) - I haaaaate the logo you posted (sorry) really hard to read and prefer the current style. All in all though I loved the video 10/10 IGN game video of the year

It feels like it's an extract from a longer but still high paced review kind of video, all the jokes land and it's a good chunk but it just feels like by the time you've settled into the video and start taking in what's being said, you're three quarters of the way through it. With higher paced videos like Zero Punctuation and the stuff UpIsNotJump makes there's normally a bit of preambles at the start to ease you in before the hyper high gear editing kicks in. Maybe I'm talking shit and this will massively grow on me 🤷‍♂️

Omari Antony

A lot just happened and the only thing I took in was that there were two "your mom's" jokes based around baked goods and a proprietor of such, For me it's a little too much like those weekly gaming news videos you did. Too much fit in too quickly and thus leaving no time to comprehend anything. Yeah just watched it a second time and though you show us footage related to what you're saying, for me it's just not sticking. Really wouldn't mind a slightly longer video where maybe you introduce a characteristic and then show a couple of examples or just a bit more gameplay. Set the scene, play it out and finish it to conclusion like a news report rather than a headline statement of fact and moving on to the next one.

Daniel Marshall

I'm a big fan guys. AS LONG as the big videos stay too even if they become rarer? I really love the idea where you say the mad shit you started the last reboot with will return, along with these short videos - that sounds amazing. It really sounds like the nerdcubed I for one have really missed. I'm always all in, but I'm more all in ( that's a thing, right? ) than ever.

Arran

*build from the ashens ftfy

Tim Thompson

I think this will work provided we do also get long videos where you still do situational and unrehearsed jokes. Will you continue the tradition of doing a 12 hour stream for the occasion?

Nah, there was loads of it!

Nerd³

shit Dan, why you gotta be so good at writing?

zeddubbsy

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of this system. It feels similar to Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation but with something missing. It just doesn't feel like the right style of video to see from you. That's not to say I'm against this entirely. You said you had fun making this and if that's the case I'll gladly stick around. I love this channel after all, hence why I'm here. But who knows, maybe it'll grow on me?

Joshua Aarons

I enjoy it, my worry is it seems a bit ZeroPunctuation-y and I worry about doing something someone else is doing

Ewan Spence

Keeping it under two forces me to focus on the very, very important points of the game. Leaves no room for fat. That's what I was going for anyway.

Nerd³

Joke's on you. My mum's a vegetarian

Tom Chaney

Love the idea and as a first try this is fine! I think it could do with more variety in the jokes though and something to break up the relentless pace would be nice because I can hardly remember anything you said and I only just watched it. It was funny though, and I totally support this new format, could be great!!!

Alex

LOVE IT!

HaphazardPanda

As someone who is losing all their spare time to life I genuinely loved it. Short, funny and to the point. My kind of thing!

I like it, I just think it should be more comedy and less facts as the jokes were funny and I liked them.

LeapLemmings (Josh Jones)

I like it. I like the fact that it's informative as well. If it was the only thing going up on the channel I don't think it would work but I think it's defo nice as it's own series. Tbh would be happy with just these and the mad shit videos. I loved the vibe of those from the last reboot with the weird intros/outros and the possibility of an overarching story. And that Tiny Town video is one of my favourites and imo one of your funniest. I like the idea of collabs too although I'm probably less likely to click on one of those if I saw it unless it was someone I recognised or a game that I want to see you play. Am excited though good job!

Tim Thompson

That was great! The writing was quick and humorous (I haven't laughed that hard in a long time). While the video was short, everything was captured entirely and there was no fat on it. Just glorious, glorious carbs. Very much a quick UpIsNotJump-esque review. I like where this channel is heading.

zeddubbsy

IT WORKS!

Nerd³

I enjoyed the video. It's going to take a little while for me (and I assume others) to get used to how short they're going to be, but I think it gains more in that regard. It's like a shot of strong NerdCubed rather than a pint of NerdCubed Lager. The process is less drawn out, but the end result is the same.

Alastair Haig

Very interesting! I quite liked it, and it was informative of the game as well as humorous. Although I do much prefer the longer "Recommends..." or "Tests..." videos, this is certainly something that could be entertaining and put out much quicker. I know there's a lot of games you've streamed that I'm sure you have wanted to put onto the channel but couldn't because reasons, and perhaps this could let you do that!

Pantscada

That was super fun! you managed to get a nice review out whilst still being as funny as always, and as long as the Saturday fun stuff stays I won't mind short content at all. And as long as you love what you're doing, I'm sure we (or at least I) will as well.

Sam Lamboo

I always get excited about the reboots to see what you come up with and it's always (almost 😏) something good. Didn't disappoint this time either! I love the jokes whilst also providing some relevant information. If I could make one wish then maybe do it a biiiit more slowly, felt like there was an undertone of urgency. If that was intended then ignore me, I'm just talking out of my ass anyways.

I'll be honest and unpopular... I didn't like it. However, I am glad that you're putting the effort in that you want to and it makes you happy. I guess my problem is I'm not your fan for reviews, I'm not really into reviews at all. I watch your channel to see you have fun and do silly things. At lest I still have the saturday videos and streams for that.

James Rowe

Saturday videos on a saturday. Other things will be a bit more flexable.

Nerd³

You and your damn twitter trolling :D. Lol. Well, I'm not sure?! I mean, I like bit sized, but a game as HUGE as AC:ODSY in this case kinda needs...more? I dunno, i know it was just an example. I'd like to see MUCH MORE VR content, especially some of the movement based VR games and "Job" or "stealth" games like the robot ninja stabby game, that was fun to watch. I like the idea behind this, but i also want to see you put "effort" into the longer, heftier, argueably funnier videos of the "plays" series. I like bitesized, but maybe only for "oh shit i never knew that came out" games or "check this random gem out that stealth launched today" games :). I'm with whatever you do, more content is great, different content is great, how you do it...will be the real test. i do miss the heaven/hell stuff, but love the VR stuff, love the plays stuff, BRING BACK LITTLE AND CUBED AND FATHER AND SONDAYS! other than that..carry on :).

CarrierOfTime

CRITICISM I loved this one, but I think that's down to the fact I know and PLAYED this game. The jokes are great, but would probably go lost on the main 'audience', the ones who HAVEN'T PLAYED the games. Otherwise I hope the longer videos or streams don't disappear, I still love to hear you ramble!

Jannes Verlinde

Interesting because well. It’s a reboot and now all you need is a \10 and your a review channel. I haven’t been watching because life’s been terrible to be honest and YouTube just wishes you weren’t a thing anymore because I missed 2 videos once. But the streams especially on a Sunday while the roast cooks is quality. Do whatever you feel like you enjoy on YouTube because it gets boring when you don’t enjoy as you loose your charm. Still stayed subscribed here even if I wasn’t watching it. $1 wont hurt and it’s the least I can do after all the hours of videos I’ve watched. Ps. There’s only one thing I would beg for you to bring back... podcats! It’s an iconic trio.

Valthexus

I like how quick and snappy it is! Maybe some of the jokes needed just a little bit more time to land though, especially the ones mid-sentence. Love how it actually gets the information across in that time though!

Adam Dodman

That's what she said.

Nerd³

I liked the video and can't wait to see more from you in the future. P.S Book hype has increased.

I had a take with brief reaction gaps and it was... not good. I thinks it works a bit more as a re-watchable thing.

Nerd³

This is really quirky, Funny, Well edited, Fast paced madness and i love it!

Alister Magnus Gray

Yes! Si! Yes in various other languages! Every other way of saying yes! I love this! I need more of this!

I liked the video, bitesize Dan is fun, but I will miss the longer, more in depth videos. But if you guys are happy then I'm all for it. Maybe let the video's stretch to 3 minutes but have the same style? Maybe slow it down slightly as it feels almost slightly rushed. That could just be though

Joseph Hewitt

I like it! Plenty of jokes, gets the point across well. Feels quite Yahtzee without the huge amounts of pessimism. Only criticism is that you sound like you are reading a script, if you can sound a bit more natural it would be pretty much perfect! Also one your mum joke is enough I feel.

Dylan Parry

Love it. I think the dense style is refreshing and very funny as always. I was surprised when it finished so quick but I guess I shouldn't be considering what my girlfriend says about me... Dan, the reboot looks like its going to be fun and enjoyable for you and us, although YouTube will probably give you less money for your efforts than a returned game at GameStop.

Max Tal

Yeah I quite like this. It's kind of like Dunkey combined with Zero Punctuation and your Rapid Royale Roster Rundown (I think I got that right). I'm feel that this will work well, but only if you keep with the longer Saturday stuff. Definitely not what I was expecting, but I love it anyway. And it goes with what you were aiming for with the 2017 reboot (showing off good games).

Reese McKay

im interested. personally, i've had less time to watch YouTube because of life but im definitely much happier to get my Nerdcubed fix in these bitesize chunks, tasty!

Simon Paffett

That was fucking amazing, it reminds me of Zero Punctuation and UpIsNotJump. I do however wish it was a bit longer, maybe aiming between 5 to 7 minutes. Right now it kind of feels like a trailer for the game rather than a full video. Keep up the great work, can't wait for more!

Filip 'PhilTheDead' Kwasniewski

I liked it. The ability to convey a large amount of information in a small amount of time is impressive, and the idea behind putting indies on the same level of AAA games is a genuinely great way to introduce new games to people who would have never heard of said game. One criticism I would have of this video is that yo mama jokes are kind of like apocalypse theories, in that they got old after 2012. One question, will these types of videos have a schedule, or are they going to be uploaded whenever you feel like they are good enough to be uploaded?

Loved it. Excited to see more and how you run with the idea.

im total y down with this as a part of the reboot :)

Tvgold

I like the "dense" approach. A quick snappy summary of the game with genuinely funny jokes is better for me than a long drawn-out video padded to be over 10 minutes. Top-notch, I'll have the same again with chips please!

Elliott Barker

Something finally worth watching again, tho I'm not the biggest fan of the length much prefer longer videos.

96allskills

The writing is very good but I feel like your voice is a tad off. It gets better around 1:30 and i'm looking forward to what this means for your channel.

Matthew Penman

Personally, I really liked it. There was the right balance of information for people who don't know about the game and humour for those who do and just want a quick laugh.

Alexander Lewis

I think that the style that you are going for is a sort of mix between old dan and new and improved dan, with all of the classic “ your mum jokes” but the fluidity and bouncyness of you at the moment. To be honest, I couldn’t tell that it was scripted but the blend of jokes and info was about right. Looking forward to more like this!

I'll have to make a Luigi's Balloon world video for a direct comparison! :D

Nerd³

Also I love the video. The comedic timing is top notch, while still cramming in enough info to make me want to buy the game. I look forward to new ones!

Scott

I thoroughly enjoyed the video, even if I do like your longer videoa this is equally entertaining

Ethan Weightman

Also yes, LOVE FUCKING WITH TWITTER

Siana Brooker

i love it

eventually

Nice, but also sounds very much like Zero Punctuation. :/

Dodger-nzl

OOOO I'M EXCITED, this was fucking funny and I'm SO excited to see scripted Dan stuff I've heard so much about from your podcasts etc. This video was hilarious so we're already off to a good start!

I’m slightly disappointed that I won’t be able to binge watch your videos for as long but it was funny and felt really well put together!

Conner

It feels like a cross between zero punctuation and upisnotjump. It is fucking glorious

FUCKING LOVE IT DAN. I like the pace, it gets everything out there with information mixed with some jokes so it's not boring and you don't forget anything you said 👌👌

Siana Brooker

I fucking loved it

ok that’s fucking great cos like i love your content but life has been a busy boi this year so i don’t have time to watch any youtube that’s more than like 10 minutes. was a bit skeptical at the whole scripting bit but it super works and now i’m even more excited for the book lmao

Zero Punctuation

That was rather enjoyable. Definitely funny, your humour shines through. Maybe one or 2 jokes too much, or a tiny but forced in places. But that could easily be because it's the first of its kind. I did enjoy it though. :)

Simon Robinson

Really good

Well it's certainly different , a nice change of pace to your usual content that imo was getting brought down by your lack of interest. Very similar to the dunky format some of the jokes didn't always land but that's just personal again. Maybe try getting them to five minutes would be better but that's for you to decide. I like the change and think the more you do the better they will become

Morgan

It’s a lovely change! I do hope you still do some videos the same way you’ve always done every now and again. But variety is always good!

Jaimus Tilley

Dan I literlaly pissed myself laughing my sheets were as wet as when your mum was over Jk tho Great Job

Real nice

It's really good, ditching the algorithm might screw you badly but it's nice to have an entirely new format on YouTube. The scripted idea is really cool and worked, and basically more of this seems great

Actually considering buying this in the future, after Unity I thought I was done with assassins creed. But this may turn me back.

James Barber

i really liked that

Lucie Spiler

Two thumbs up and no your mum isn’t fat

Dan is a phoenix confirmed? But not too bad honestly. It might take some getting used to since the viewer has zero reaction time from joke to joke. Also a lot of yo mum jokes. But it's cool. New things are always a bit awkward at first. But cool.

I liked the content, but I think it should be 50-100% longer

Love it, perfectly sums up the game in a short video that is easily digestible.

I love it about as much as you can climb up that man's penis

Ryan Earles

One of the takes was 100% Yahtzee and therefore unusable. I definitely had to work on moving it less deadpan. (Rebecca thinks I sound like Charlie Brooker by the end of this one)

Nerd³

This was genuinely excellent and made me want to buy the game even though I had no interest in it before hand. I think this style of recommends works a lot better for people who want to know about games with out any proper gameplay spoilers or similar. In short, this is the way forward, I love it.

I love this. Reminds me a lot of Charlie Brooker tbh

Matthew

Damn, I really like it. It felt really snappy, the script was really tight. It felt a tad short, but I'm not sure whether that's just because I'm not used to the shorter videos. Same goes for the pace.

Love it. Snappy and funny and I have no free time so this is perfect

Love it

That’s the hardest I’ve laughed at your content in ages!! Fantasric

Dan I have to say that this is FUCKING AWSOME!!!

His effort inspired me to put more effort in. :p

Nerd³

Just a tad bit longer would have completely sold me, 5 minutes maybe, but otherwise this has me as happy as the last reboot. Great job Dan!

I like it. Reminds me a bit of Zero Punctuation.

Morgan Howson

Burn the channel down, build from the ashes

Jon Jones

The first 2 minutes of the reboot have 2 your mum jokes so clearly this is the best thing ever

Callum Jessamine

A Tiny bit short but i love it

BMK1571

Not sure how i feel about this, seems too much like a dunkey rip off to me. But if your having fun making the videos and its the stiyle you want to do then thats great.

DrgnMstrAdam

1. I love it. 2. It made me add AC:O to my wishlist when I had no interest in it. 3. Keep doing it. 4. Love the new logo :D

Angus Noble

That was the best thing I've ever seen

Up is not jump inspired??

Scott

Well that was fucking great. I love it. I'll take 6000 more please. Also what is the new weekly schedule gonna look like? EDIT: Just noticed the giant word blurb beneath the video. I'm so glad we're getting that weird saturday shit from the beginning of the last reboot. 10/10

That was amazing

That was fun! I had fun! That was a fun video!

FlamingYeti

On the road again.. donkey

Another reboot....I’m excited

Scott

Here we go again
