Patreon Update Launch has unfortunately been delayed

HELLO

Unfortunately due to Patreon based fuckery, we're having to delay the launch of the new tiers and art prints. We're really sorry about this, and we do this through angry teeth. This delay may be just a few days but it may be pushed back all the way till the start of September. I'll explain why below!

----

The reason for the delay is that as it stands, any current annual Patrons simply won't be able to back the new tiers - and we absolutely do not want to punish or leave out those who've chosen to support us for a whole year.

The reason for this is that Patreon considers is impossible to move from an annual membership to a monthly membership. Which by extension means anyone with an annual patronage is locked out of moving over to any of the new tiers.

We've only now found out about this because Patreon only make this information known and obvious to Patreons, and not to Creators. If I'd have known about that last month this probably wouldn't have been an issue.

I've found a partial solution in that, I can manually refund the remainder of a person's yearly pledge back to them, which also means their pledge is cancelled at the end of the month allowing you to rejoin on a monthly tier. Later in the month I'll be doing partial refunds to any currently annual patron on the £1 or £5 tiers who wishes to move to a new tier, and automatically for anyone else on any no longer existing tiers.

This is a messy and nonideal solution. We've tried a few different methods like blocking and different kinds of refunding to force Patreon's systems to allow annual patrons to get a monthly one, but all have failed.

We could offer the new tiers annually, but forcing anyone on an current annual plan to pay £180 a year or not get them feels wrong, we also don't even know if we're able to commit to 12 months of them right now.

We've contacted Patreon and we're hoping that they'll be able to sort something else out that's more elegant and quicker, but so far the outlook looks grim. We shall update you all when we know more!

- Matt

How do we teach dan how a power bank charger works 😅 love the podcasts

It says here in the nerdcubed.fandom wiki page that "in his video Nerd³ FW - Duck Game, he showed a sudden and surprising fondness of ducks." I don't know if that's relevant but hope it helps.

I helped Matt out with testing a few things and yeah it was better to delay to let everybody have a chance when this all gets sorted and I hope it does.

Better delayed than done poorly. Thanks for pushing it back.

Just gonna echo everyone else here and say that its a completely understandable delay (albeit frustrating on your end) Thanks for looking out for all of us, hope Patreon cooperates to sort it out!

Dan

If you can do it manually, by cancelling and rejoining, then why doesn't patreon do that under the hood, maybe with confirmation from the user?

Thank you everyone for putting the community first! I'm sure there's many people out there he would have just carried on and left their yearly subscribers in the dark

It all sounds so stressful :0 I hope it all works out and I hope patreon thinks on fixing that issue, i feel like it was an oversight ?? But regardless I am patient and excited for the prints whenever they come :3

Alexander

Completely understandable, wouldn’t want it any other way if this way we allow everyone the chance

What a pain Matt, last thing you needed. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Can't imagine the un-needed stress this is causing, thank you for the regular updates and I hope all this shite gets sorted without to many grey hairs <3

Thank you for the update, and for all the effort. We all understand, it absolutely wouldn't be fair to exclude annual patrons just because of patreon fuckery.

I find it laughable that Patreon say it’s impossible. What they actually mean is the system they’ve built has meant it is impossible bc they designed it without thinking of this scenario. I won’t get all technical here but the point is, if you built a system like this correctly it’s very possible to switch from annual to monthly subscriptions

Ryan Murtagh

Sorry you have to go through all of this extra work x Thanks for looking out for everyone though. Dealing with shitty and old systems is always frustrating because it seems no one's ever on the same page

I think we all understand - can’t wait for the prints whenever they come!
