The Patreon Podcast - Episode 144 - Nerd³ Reboot 2023

I know it's been three weeks but I'm still going to offer my two cents because it's a dissenting opinion. Personally I really like the idea of shorts. As someone who used TikTok and even made content on there for a little while, I think bringing a short form recommendation show to the places where short form thrives will go over really well. Plus the indie recommendation stuff was one of the things that originally got me into the channel so, so many years ago, and it's one of the things I have sorely missed since News died. I am a bit sad about one plays a month, but if it ends up being classic Nerdcubed adjacent like the Kenneth Kennethson one, I think it's a good change. Especially with the streams now becoming the content generator completes used to be, I think this is the most excited I've been for a Nerdcubed reboot in a while.

the changes are good for the channel and probably in any other way for your mental health so I totally agree with them if they benefit you all. From a personal point of view I don't really like the whole shorts idea especially featuring them on Instagram and TikTok. to be fair I don't think the channel will benefit from this in the long run. I get it to get the word out for cool games and etc but a 10 minute video that is more entertaining will probably get more engagement then a 1 minute shorts but that is all personal opinion Also I hope there will be a YouTube video about the changes or you write them down in a short format as I don't listen to the podcast I was surprised by the changes hearing them in a VOD of a stream. wishing you all the best and lots of love <3

As someone who doesn't really like YouTube shorts, I'm sure I'll still watch them. If they all think that's this is the way to go then why don't try it out?

For the people concerned about the shorts, if the shorts were added to a playlist, they can then be viewed as just normal videos. It's personally the only way I watch shorts as I do not like the whole scrolling for random videos thing, nor short's lack of a functional UI (no volume control nor ability to rewind without watching the whole video). From the playlist, you could even get shareable video links, that will not put the user in the short's section of youtube, it'll just function as a normal youtube video.

Wait didn't Dan say that the big expensive animal thing was for 5 planned rescues? When I saw the guinea pig photo on twitter I assumed he was part of that, but do you have even more animals on the way?

Shorts aren't my thing but I honestly love the changes, I loved your recommendations in the news videos and just more of them sounds brilliant. Also massively into less but better plays videos especially if they're more challenge or story focused and on games you actually enjoy, it just makes a far better video. (Plus people like doug doug, let's game it out and valefisk who do their lets plays like that are the only people whos let's plays i actually watch anymore)
