What I'm Working On #020
Added 2024-03-04 14:36:25 +0000 UTCHi y'all! I'm back with a quick update on how I've been spending my modding time (last week, as this is obv much delayed.)
Patch Update
That patch really had to happen on my busiest work week of the year so far. ๐ต But I think we're finally back in close to working order. The patch had some far-reaching changes to how tuning files work which meant going through even really old mods and combing through every XML file individually. That being said, I tried to pair that with some small planned updates for a handful of mods.
One of these updates was the addition of a new object for the Blacksmithing Mod called the "Ultimate Pile of Ingots". It came to my attention that having ingots for decoration could be useful for building treasuries, banks, etc, so I wanted to make one that wouldn't be exhausting on your game. There's a functional one, as seen below, and also one that is purely decorative which I recommend using if you're planning to put many of these in a vault. This is craftable once you get to level 10 blacksmithing (as it is very overpowered...).

Another change for the Archery and Blacksmithing mods is the addition of [JaneSimsten] in the search terms of Build/Buy mode objects. This was a recommendation from users on Discord who had said it can be difficult to find objects from my mods, and I plan to update Regency eventually to do the same.

Another meaningful update was for the Townie Skills mod, which now includes the Equestrian and Gemology skills, as well as all of my own modded skills. Some users had commented that they wanted a way for their unplayed lords and ladies to build Etiquette skill over time, and this is a step toward solving that problem. As a reminder, you can edit the config file to make this mod more useful for historical play. Set any skills you don't want townies to build to false. Townies who have the Blacksmithing and Archery careers will also build the associated skills over time, including the new Gemology skill for Blacksmiths. :)

Spinning Wheel
And of course the update sort of derailed my plans for other mods this week. I had hoped to already have the Spinning Wheel finished, but alas... It will most certainly be out this week. I spent a good chunk of the early part of last week trying to figure out how to override the wool requirements for Knitting and Cross-Stitch recipes in an elegant way, and I think I've landed on what I plan to do.
I also made the Animation Tunings and Animation State Machine and base interactions. The final step is for me to make it so different colors of wool result in different colors of thread and yarn.

Finally, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who shared kind words and supportive messages during the update process. I realize this patch was a doozy for users as well as modders, and I so appreciate everyone's patience, kindness, and well-wishes in what must have been a stressful time for you as well.
<3 Until next time, ~JS
