The first thing I noticed was Lauren's hair too funny!! I just joined Patreon and so glad I did

Jessica

Being on an island with either one of them - my God. I'l going to have nightmares.

SensibleCrime

I think Chad would see her wedding band as chillling

Lenore Lampi

Also, do you think sissy Chad will roll her under the bus and be the first one to actually dump her? She can't kill him since they're already behind bars.

Christine

Do you think she is trying to look happy and beautiful for her crazy husband Chad, knowing that he will be able to see the proceedings?

Christine

I feel like she's like, "Y'all are all going to be sorry when the end of the world is here and I'm leading the 144,000 with Chad." I truly think that's what she believes.

Julie Holden

The band around her finger is for sure a hair band. Nate Eaton got a close up.

Julie Holden

I've wondered this too.

Julie Holden

First of all, let me tell you both how amazing you are. Your insights are kind, raw, and real. I admire you both greatly! My question is this: do you think that perhaps the 'ring' on Lori's finger is to signify her 'marriage' to Moroni? She is fully aware that Chad's lawyer has attempted to sever the cases. My opinion is that she, based on her latest body language, she is still firm in her beliefs. Was her making sure we saw the ring for Chad, Moroni, or even worse, she could be easily deemed incompetent for trial ?

While there's likely a confluence of conscious + subconscious reasons for Lori's facial expressions and behavior during the hearing, I got the sense that her smiling and looking directly at the camera were ways of claiming a sense of defiant self-dignity in the face of the public. After all, she's sitting there as an aging prisoner with no real makeup, in jail clothes, with no direct voice except through her attorney, and limited autonomy being charged with the most horrific of crimes. Right now, it seems to work to her advantage in her mind, to present herself as emotionally impervious to her current situation to maintain that sense of dignity, though I can see her changing her tune to pure victim as it suits her needs.

General question: Most people who experience trauma or abuse in their life do not go on to be murderers, so what's your opinion on the difference for people who do? For example: There's a lot of "recreating" parental situations among serial killers, and also seems to be a lot of people who battle with self acceptance (like sexual orientation or a desire for a relationship) -- but of course not everyone whose parents interact with cults grows up to be Keys, not everyone who is gay or lonely grows up to be Dahmer, etc. So what's the difference?

Samantha Wolf

I’m grateful to be listening to the patron show discussing Lori’s mental status and how one, such as yourself Dr. John, would evaluate Lori. Your insight is deeply helpful in my understanding as we move forward in the case. Lauren your insights, questions and ability to pull all of these sources together is so mind blowing. You two really have such a beautiful way of serving humanity in this way. I am honoured to have found you and to love you three. Prayers always!

Paula Marie Cornell

I believe it was a silicone wedding band. I may be incorrect but that would be all she would likely be able to have.

Paula Marie Cornell

Dr. John, do you think the way Lori is acting and behaving is because she is playing us? Kind of like a Ted Bundy or something. Like she thinks she is so smart, pretty, and knows more than the rest of us and she’s got us all fooled and is just going to laugh and play her way through all of this? I may be totally off but I just always get the feeling from her that she is messing with us and she knows exactly what she is doing.

Christine

Do you think it’s possible that Lori’s presumed schizo-affective disorder is NOT late onset but has been present her entire adult life but was somewhat concealed by all her Cox family drama, cultural religious beliefs and lifestyle, etc?

Wendy Bastings

I wonder if Lori acts this way as a way to antagonize people as she knows she’s hated and called crazy, etc. that’s always my feeling.

Elvie

Dr. John, what was Lori’s purpose behind wearing the hair band around her ring finger. Beyond the obvious of showing her devotion to her husband…any other thoughts on that?

CuriousCat

P.S. I’m glad Lauren and Dr. John are doing this live! I’m looking forward to hearing their take on Lori in this hearing.

I've noticed on a number of occasions that women will default to focusing on their appearance, in a bizarre way, when under stress or going off the deep end. Lori's hair band in the middle top front of her hair is not normally considered to be a valid hairdo for normal women. Her eyebrows look a little over groomed, or groomed in very particular style, and I would say not really on track with normal fashion. When I lived in NYC, I remember noticing a very young homeless mentally ill woman on the subway one morning who had a bizarre heavy makeup job, and was constantly looking in the window at herself and combing her weirdly feathered hair with a plastic fork all the way from Brooklyn to Manhattan. My grandmother with Alzheimers in the beginning would go to the bathroom and work on her hair and makeup for hours on end. It weirdly distills what women may be forced to value in themselves as a comfort? Or what is this phenomenon? I interpret her smiling as a way women try to make people like them. Women are often told to smile when they are not for some reason. What do you make of this weird emphasis on beauty and smiling for the crowds? And thanks for coming on-you two have fascinating conversations together!

I’m not sure that Lori is grounded in reality. She may pass muster for being able to participate in her defense but I don’t get the sense that she is connecting to what is going on around her. It seemed to me that she changed expressions when she picked up some cue: “Oh, I need to be serious here!” I’m not sure if I’m making sense. I suppose my question would be: Does Dr. John think Lori will be able to make it to the trial without relapsing? Lori is one seriously mentally ill individual.

Kate FitzGerald

Do you think her behavior is due to a complete disconnect from what is going on? Or possibly just complete attention seeking behavior and nothing to do with what was going on in court at all other than just trying to get attention from ppl in the courtroom, tv, etc? It reminded me of middle school children in class with some good gossip or something.

Carly Fontana

Dr. John, do you think whatever is wrong with Lori is nature or nurture. The whole family is odd.

Madea Thinks

Can you differentiate between what it might look like for Lori to be "restored and medicated" versus "partially decompensated again"? I ask because a lot of people perceived Lori's smiles and laughs as unhinged -- as approaching behavior that will get her sent back into treatment. I disagree. Although the smiles and laughs were disturbing, (1) Lori seemed to be listening, paying attention, and understanding what was being said, and (2) If she is still a believer (which I definitely think she is), her inappropriate laughs, to me, simply indicate that she understands what's going on but isn't worried because she'll soon be leading the 144,000 in the end times. The latter is a strange belief system, but it's not decompensated, right??

Julie Holden

I was watching Lori like a hawk during the hearing. At several points I saw her left elbow shaking. I assume it was because she was bouncing her fist against her leg. Not a question, just an observation.
