BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE NETFLIX DOC

Director Skye Borgman interviewed John twice during the two year process of making "Sins of our Mother". The second time the Netflix crew came, I was able to watch some of the interviewing process and shot some video on my cell phone.

Just found this 6 minute clip with Skye asking John about cults and Chad Daybell.

On Friday we turned the tables and John and I were able to interview Skye. It was an intimate conversation. We discussed Colby's charges that have now been dismissed.

We'll share that interview on our public YouTube channel soon,  but I might save some outtakes for Patreon only, due to the sensitive convo.

JOHN INTERVIEWING SKYE COMING SOON ...

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE NETFLIX DOC

I somehow wasn’t aware of the profound conversation happening in front of me, so I was just getting random shots to hopefully edit a behind-the-scenes video one day 🤣. If only I had been listening and just stopped!

🤣🤣🤣

So good! I wish they would have used this clip. It’s an important discussion to have as a country right now.

It’s hard not to extrapolate Dr. John’s message on de-humanizing “the other” to today’s politics in America.

lolol! I KNOW!!! I wish I could go back. I wasn't hearing the profound converstion, and was filming different shots for a possible edited video one day. Little did I know the best stuff was happening right in front of me and I should have stuck with the subjects.

I always felt had they not been caught, this could have been a repeat of Jim Jones.

Let me try this again ...Dr.John's classical and encompassing education serves us all well. It's a true pleasure to listen to him. Aren't we all lucky !?!!💚💡🇺🇸

Joan Pheney Engstrom

I totally agree with you Lisa. Doctor John's classical and encompassing education serves us all welleducation serves ell En b

This was such a valuable insight from Dr. John, pointing out the historical parallels in the dehumanisation of victims to make killing them easier. I hadn't thought of that before and it takes these crimes into even deeper and darker places.

Lisa O'Brien

we are so glad to have you Cathy!

Dr. John has the most soothing, intellectual talks. I learn so much from him every time time he speaks. I’m glad to be a part of this group.

Cathy Flanary-Shelton

I could listen to Dr. John all day.

Tamara Wakeman Sukohl

Wow!! This conversation literally gave me chills! Dr. John touches on some extremely relevant and terrifying points. Thank you for this insight!

Catherine Garneau (ArtsyCat)

So interesting and insightful John! You are right, Chad could’ve begun a domino effect by instilling his dehumanizing beliefs into others. I truly hope people have woken up to this.

Carly Fontana

It really was funny. She knows I am messing with her. I mean how cool to have that all set up in your house and getting to be a part of something so special! So very proud of these two!!!

I can’t wait to watch Dr. John do his thing. I’m so glad that Skye Borgman realized the value in making Dr. John an integral part to telling the story. The story and characters are colorful enough that perhaps any other director would chose to forgo the understanding and go straight for the entertainment. But Skye acknowledges that the audience is smarter and deserves more than that. Going to throw on my Hidden True Crime shirt, grab the popcorn, and prepare for an all-nighter binge watch!

Stephanie Budge

Awww I wasn’t meaning to pick on her/ just thought it was funny But the good conversation was captured and that’s all that matters. But I seriously do like weird art films and I’ve seen worse filming :-)

When I watched I asked Lauren if she was the photographer. She answered that she was. I haven’t replied yet, as I’m trying to let the sea sickness wear off. But I will tell her to stick to being in front the camera😂😂😂😂😂😂

Most historians believe Moses was a fictional character but I’m sure that wouldn’t stop Chad. I guess there are always people who want to follow some unreality - I imagine you’re right cos escapism in jail would be understandable. I guess it depends on the culture of the inmates too. I mean some would tend toward a standard Christian maybe- but he could attract end times /near death or conspiracy theorists. But they’d have to get past the “ they found childrens bodies in his garden” which could be a bridge too far for some.

Tad Auty

Men in prison are looking for hope and answers. They might question their existence. I can see Chad turning the tables and giving people fake titles and undeserved adulation in exchange for protection. Alone in a dark cot at night, an inmate might think, why not? I could be Moses reincarnated, Chad might be on to something.

bfly

Lauren, you are the noisiest videographer ever! 😄 But John had some good answers. I like his response about Chad and Lori seeking validation and thus encouraging a following. Paraphrasing lightly of course.

bfly

Ps Thanks for filming that Lauren. I really enjoys the immersive abstract shots so I felt like a puppy on the floor listening ;-)

Tad Auty

Interesting question about if Chad could’ve led a cult that could’ve killed millions. I would’ve totally thought that was impossible because he’s such an uncharismatic dweeb. However , looking at current political representatives that are on board with qanon and trying to incite violence - well- Chad could appear somewhat intelligent stacked up against some of them. So it is a scary thought. But fortunately we won’t get to find out as he is where he belongs. I don’t know if the prison population will fall for his mumbo jumbo, but of course there are still people out in the community who share his beliefs, even if they don’t follow him. And beliefs can lead to bad behaviours in the hands of the wrong people with bad motives and sick underlying issues.
